Big_G wrote:Personal highlight was when Samir(?) turned up and led Reading Half for about a mile (there was a video of him somewhere, where the front runners were looking over at him thinking ‘who on earth is this guy?!!’). He was on a quest to become an Olympian, which is how he started his posting over there. Pretty sure he was banned at least once but came back again. He took a lot of stick but seemed to take it all in his stride. Good times.

Samir Haddad indeed: thepowerof10.info

I met him few times: I used to run in Hammersmith and he was at Ealing. Nice guy, a talented runner but no work ethic.

Wow I don’t think I knew it was still going! When I was called a “northern witch” on one of the threads over there I migrated here in 2007 and never revisited.

Another refugee or parallel poster. Hope to see more familiar names pop up over time.

Good to see some already from the StevieG, Shades and Daily thread!

That said, that same thread now only really has 5 or 6 people posting on there regularly. Used be scores back in the day. And a few of us still meet up at London every year. Hey ho. Exact same here. Over 14 years of a thread I posted on, there were some great times, and posting race reports was part of the experience. Met many great people who became real life pals too (as well as the occasional "character") Only just remembered I had this login!

Oh no. It *has* happened! stevieg

Must say I didn't find anything toxic in the threads I was contributing to. RW mucked up the format many years ago then left it to decline. Threads from 2019 are at the top of certain forum sections, it's a mess.
Similar to others I have met dozens of runners from there over the years. I could go to any marathon or other event here or overseas and there would be a mini meet up. Happy days.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it!

About This Thread

Maintained by fetcheveryone
Runner's World posted an announcement today to tell their users that they are closing their forum on Friday :-O

So... I just wanted to make a little landing pad and decorate it with welcome flags for any new arrivals.
