A good solution for society as a while duchess but kills women’s sport dead. And the drive for equality in sporting pay.

Also why as a woman should I be forced to accept someone who remains anatomically male is a woman - would that be because the former man told me I had to. Good's to see misogyny is alive & well. I really thought we'd moved on from that in the 21st century.

If there was a simple solution available I suspect we’d have come across it within 49 pages of (mostly) constructive discussion.

Women's sport has come a tremendously long way recently. It was only in 1984 that women were able to run the marathon at the Olympics. We’re also starting to see a greater push for parity in pay for example. Not that there isn’t still a great deal to go!

Transgender sport (at the risk of ascribing an unnecessary label) is at the beginning of its journey. I suspect the issues we’ve been discussing here aren’t limited to running but will exist across all sports (with the possible exception of equestrianism where men and woman compete along side each other). Hopefully as Fetchies we can continue to positively contribute to the future of all sports for all people - and hopefully the bumps along the road don’t cause too much heartache for anyone.

Pothunter - I don't want to be controversial for controversy sake but the possible eradicaiton of women's sport is really not a bump in the road. As Bazo said, without proper scientific study ther is a real risk that women's sport is dead - just at the point when we were finally getting somewhere with making it equal to mens.

The issue is not just at elite level as some have commented. Without protection for female born athletes sport there will be no female born athletes at elite level in the future as they will not reach that level which is why the issues need to be thoroughly researched and applied at all levels of sport.

I absolutely wouldn’t describe the eradication of women’s sport as a mere bump in the road. But I do think that is a long way off (for now). I’ve got two pre-teen daughters and while neither of them has yet shown a propensity towards elite sports I want them to grow up in a world where being female isn’t a barrier to anything. That said if either of them was transgender I wouldn’t want that to be a barrier (to them or anyone else).

(Hopefully I’ve explained that clearly. I need to dash to get a cuppa ahead of a full morning of meetings...)

The problem is Pothunter - the inclusion of transgender athletes into women's sport by definition will lead to the eradication of women's sport - the two cannot mutually coexist due to the male born athleests retaining physical advantage even after transition (see video link by scientificc microbioloigst earlier in this thread).

People can choose to identify how they wish but a transgender athlete competing in the protected female class may be benefiicial for them but will most defintely place a barrier on your teenage daughters partaking in female sport.

Jovi,

I respect you have a differing view on some points, but I think post 6514 sums up why a lot of your posts made me feel uncomfortable.

I for one am able and want to accept all members of the transgenger community, whatever stage in the process they are.

I am also a huge fan of women's sport, and believe its incredibly important its protected, and continues move towards parity with mens where it should

I have brought up my son to respect all human beings, to respect girls and women, to understand about trans gender people.

Speaking to my wife today, she believes a transgender woman is a woman, regardless of her stage of transition. I agree.

I believe there will be a solution to the issue around sport, based around an open category perhaps, So I don't think you are far off what most people believe.

As a man, you probably don't care for my thoughts, and I am comfortable with that. Its your choice to listen or to just rant. But, I don't feel I can just continue to read this thread without voicing my opposition to SOME of your posts.

Sent with respect to you, and all women reading this of course.

You can voice you opposition to my thoughts - I've no problem with that in the same way I can voice my complete opposition to yours. The male anatomy (especially when still fully intact to put as politely as I can) has no place in women's sport IMO. The world has gone mad if those of us born female are accused of ranting for quite frankly suggesting penises have no place in women's sport.

It does not mean I hate men to want to fight for women's sport & quite frankly is offensive to suggest it does.
