I think it also has something to do with the number of people at each event. With 50 or 60 people it’s a lot easier for them to spread out than 200.

We put a diversion around a particularly icy patch this morning. We were only about 20m away from the regular path but it felt like we were in a completely different park :-)

10 years ago we we would have run the parkrun in far worse conditions than this and just basically explained the danger, said run at own risk and don't be a dick!

I appreciate running on snow is not as risky as running on ice, but this parkrun still went ahead thanks to Gobi :-)

And this parkrun at Milton Keynes :-)

I made a mistake with the second photo! That was a race the day after the parkrun pic.

This was York parkrun today.

My hair froze and I had frost on my jumper. Coldest and foggiest parkrun ever, but still a good one.

Frimley was on and a little busier than normal (but still down on pre-covid numbers). The numbers were fine, as there's loads of room and the course was a bit lumpy in places but manageable. A very nice run.

Gobi I guess what has changed over the years is the fact that a Run Director might easily have felt that a course is ok for a 50 experienced club runners, but not so safe for a mixture of 400 runners, walkers, children, dogs, pushchairs etc.

Honestly if the ice elsewhere has been anything like the ice here (compacted snow, frozen solid, then the top layer just melting...) it is genuinely unrunnable, almost unwalkable! I doubt most of this weekend's cancellations were over-cautious.
