Realised I’d missed a word out - edited in capitals 😉

I wish all the ‘you’re idiot if you don’t think this way’ people would grow up and allow conversations to carry on in a grown-up debatable manner. Fetch has always been a place where people have been welcomed to share opinions in a safe space where they are allowed to air their views and should be allowed to without being degraded to being mentally subnormal. If it makes you that angry and feel you need to insult people about their choices or ideas rather than having a descent discussion then maybe fetch isn’t the place for you? This isn’t JUST aimed at the last poster who used the ‘idiot’ word, but at a number of users on this thread who have acted pretty shoddily towards members of a community that they are involved in.

Well said Phal

I've found some of the debate interesting as I'm ok with the monarchy and the synchronised walking in silly hats :-) was fun. I liked the reaction of the BBC commentator to the 3 cheers - hw was choked up. I do though feel that the religious element was too much for me and didn't feel relevant. I get it - tradition, but I skipped a lot of that section.

BUT (and the important part) I respect people's opinions on this, 'cos a multiplicity of opinion makes for an interesting world. People do not have to agree with me (though let's be honest - I want them too :-)). I even think that I night be an outlier on this one and I'm ok with that. I even think I should keep quiet, but then how will change happen if opinions can't be discussed like grownups?

I'd be ok with the monarchy as long as they crowd, or even crown, funded stuff like this, including the bill for disposing of all the plastic bunting etc when it's all over.

I've asked politely (but obviously not clearly enough) for the sniping and ad hominem comments to come to an end. I am not aiming to stifle anyone's opinion. For the record, I am not in favour of the monarchy, and spent my time doing other things yesterday. But whatever your point of view, and no matter how strongly you feel it, if you can't express it politely and with courtesy, then don't post. Thank you.

I'd like to ask an honest and genuine question.

Those who chose to sweat loyalty to your king yesterday, what would you do if your received a letter on Tuesday morning from Buck house requiring you to attend one of the crowns vast estates and crack on with some physical hard graft for free for an unspecified period?

Would you willingly go as per your pledge?

Isn't that what tomorrow's big national Give Your Time And Labour For Free event is softening us up for, richmac? ;)

Love the typo (sweat instead of swear).

About This Thread

Maintained by Muttley
So will you be waving your little union jack and pledging your allegiance and scoffing coronation chicken or quiche at a street party?

Or ignoring the whole bloated exhibition of flummery and forelock tugging to inherited privilege and finding more important things to do?

I'm in the latter camp :-)
