Not a troll. Silly comments deserve silly comments.

I've no idea why anyone would think you were being a troll, when it is absolutely obvious to me that you are being really helpful: new event teams might never have heard of this "The Face Book" thing or of using it for volunteer appeals.

Northala started in 2014.

I did feel blamed tbh. But I'm telling myself you were trying to help.

Anyone who parkruns regularly knows the events don't happen without volunteers. We get 200-300+ runners every week. I'm a very experienced RD and ex-ED. And this is not the first time we've struggled for volunteers.

Precisely!

Sorry Linds, it’s a tough decision but I hope it sends the message x

Just to back up what Linds says, we get 95% on volunteers via our opted in mail list. We’ve never had to cancel but sometimes it takes a second email to fill the slots. If we didn’t fill the roster after the second email then I would be really worried. We do use FB and X but they yield a very low amount of volunteers.

Linds, I really feel for you. Don’t take it to heart, it’s not your fault. Hopefully your community will realise they all need to weigh in for parkrun to be sustainable

Totally, unequivocally, 100% behind you LindsD. Anyone who understands how parkrun works knows the importance of volunteering.

As a fellow RD, I totally support you Linds. You shouldn't need to beg for volunteers when that many people run regularly. We average 50 runners a week and have never cancelled through lack of volunteers but it's been close some weeks x

We’d also appeal regularly at the briefing. Anyone blaming the volunteer team for not communicating shortages should undoubtedly do more listening.

Corby parkrun get their volunteers entirely through Facebook, they never send an email. And I’m not in any way suggesting that Northala is wrong not to use FB, merely observing that different methods work for different parkruns. Very sad to hear your emails didn’t work this week, Linds.

Everyone who runs/walks at a parkrun knows they only work because of the volunteers so shouldn’t have to wait to be asked….go volunteer once in a while

Exactly, the volunteers aren’t invisible are they?
