I had intended to do Sandhurst today but did another S instead - the new parkrun at Southall which was in a charming park and a very fast course - I did my second fastest ever parkrun there which isn't bad as I am approaching a milestone birthday. I also got to see a university friend who I'd not seen for quite a long time and obviously running is good for us as neither of us have aged in the last 30 years (we have seen each other more recently than that) ![]() |

The ignore/killfile suggestion got a lot of support on the list of feature requests but … …but more people voted against it: fetcheveryone.com/featurevoting?sort=id&keyword=1121 Considering trialling it for a fixed period, or maybe enabling it for those that voted for it, just to see what the uptake and feeling is. |

An "ignore user" feature would be incredibly disappointing for me. It just encourages people into complete echo bubbles. I appreciate the need for "safe spaces" (and indeed for a better expression than that), but respectful disagreement is healthy and we shouldn't have to run away from everything we don't like. On the other hand, this site is Ian's and he is free to run things as he sees is best and I respect that too. |

Anyway, both my target visit to Pontefract and back up to Wakefield were cancelled due to ice. So last minute decision to go to the best course for racing a parkrun in Leeds - at Cross Flatts - instead.

Appreciating your point, fozzy, however, I doubt very much that creating an echo bubble is the intent of those who voted in favour (which includes me). Rather, the behaviour of some posters was felt to be so objectionable that people felt unable to contribute to threads/ look at particular threads/ engage with ANYTHING in the forums, or, in some cases, even continue to be a member of the site. And I'm pretty sure that I'd rather keep the people who ended up to that extent, than the people who (often deliberately and even maliciously) were the root of the upset. Bazoaxe, hmm: I'd sometimes happily express my views to someone's face rather more forthrightly than anything I'd put in the forums here, so, y'know ![]() Anyway, parkrun was sluggish today, and wet-footed. Still, at least it went ahead, unlike it's neighbour (Plean) which had a dangerous and unavoidable frozen section. |

I did Cross Flatts when attending a wedding. Are the steps still part of the course?

Dvorak - I understand that, and I can see why people would be in favour of it. But whether that was the intent or not, it would rapidly result in a 'facebook' style echo bubble where you only hear opinions that you agree with. Trolling is obviously not acceptable, nor is personal abuse, but my experience is that both are extremely rare on Fetch and Ian does a really good job at keeping on top of the small amount that does occur. Certainly some discussions get heated on a small number of threads and I can say I've been involved in a fair few and have overstepped the mark on a couple of occasions - and have asked Ian to remove my posts, which he has done quickly and efficiently. That, to me, doesn't warrant the "nuclear option" of needing to ignore people. We have the option now of muting a particular thread, so the option already exists to not see the threads that might cause upset. I can't think of any user (and that includes several that I've had arguments with) that would cause me to want to mute contributions across all threads. As I say, I don't think ignoring things that you don't agree with (and for that matter avoiding arguments) is particularly healthy, but that's a personal opinion and I respect that people might disagree with me on this. |

Coming back to ignore functionality, if we think it’s wrong to ignore individuals, that is the reason that I raised a feature request to ignore a thread. That way, I could pretend this whole conversation doesn’t exist because it makes me feel quite emotive and frankly ill some days, so I don’t want to get drawn in. I have avoided coming to this site in order to ignore this thread in the past. It is the case that you may not wish to discuss certain topics with certain people (eg no politics in work, for example) but are quite happy to talk to them about other things. |

CW - no, there's a path parallel to the steps now (the "travellator" as it's known locally). I genuinely think it's the best racing course of all my local parkruns. Bowling park and Horton park are also good too, but probably a bit too much climb (and are further away from me). |

It would be good to be able to mute/disregard the posts of the (encouragingly few) persistent 'posters' who do occasionally turn up and take the sheen off the otherwise shiny fetch forums
