As with all things, a minority of unpleasant experiences stick in the mind in the way that multiple acceptable experiences don't.

The central issue is whether activities of parkrun HQ actually increase the volume of parkrunners who are likely to have a narrow minded view like the ones Gobi has encountered. It's definitely a possibility, there's no doubt that parkrun casts its net wider today than it did in the BPTT days.

So much is down to individuals, whether they are individual parkrunners or key members of the core team. We saw a couple of weeks ago with the exclusion of youngsters a few seconds ahead of their parents that locally held opinions can cause disruption. It only takes a small minority to hold narrow minded views to disrupt the activities of many others and damage parkrun's reputation.

BexleyKev, only really seen the standard signage at Bromley I'm afraid!

I would be surprised if there was much tension there beyond isolated incidents (with a 500+ parkrun i guess it becomes more likely just as the numbers increase as larkim suggests), there are lots running in club colours and at either the Xmas parkrun a crew turned up from B&B Harriers with the express aim of breaking the course record (They didn't!)

At the end of the day it's just jogging around a bit but wow it gets emotive:-)

I firmly believe a lot if the atmosphere is caused by parkrun HQ and the quest for evangelism.

Paul is a nice chap but not convinced he needs a knighthood or he needs to be sainted but he is held up like Mother Theresa sometimes.

I don't want all inclusive at the end of the day I want to be around people who want to jog/run.

Walk in your own time as I don't appreciate standing around for 75 mins while you dawdle 5km in the middle of December.

aubernette - yup, a few too many really for Norman Park. I remember when the average was just over 50 - down to mid 20's if the weather was bad. Just looked at some recent pics, signs still in use, so that is good and the purple clothes bin has morphed into a little family :)

Gobi- that is why I don't like to be a tailwalker. I walk much faster than some of the walkers and get cross having to walk slowly. Likewise with marshalling, I always try and get one of the posts that doesn't require waiting an hour for the last person to come past.
I know that sounds uncharitable but I do agree that if you want to walk really slowly then go and do it in your own time.

I'll never tail walk again. I hate it. I do everything else, though, so I don't feel bad about it.

Sounds like a song, LindsD. "You'll never tailwalk alone....".
