I hate that too Sigh. I often stand a couple of feet back from the finish funnel when I'm timekeeping (it helps to see better when there's a sudden flurry of finishers) and someone always decides to come and watch the finishers and/or have a chat and they stand right in the gap I've left. Maybe I should start offering them the stopwatch! And if you want to chat, we're in the cafe for about 2 hours after parkrun finishes, I'm more likely to actually pay attention to what you're saying then!!

eL Bee!
Having walked the Whinlatter course today, I can safely say it is a peach.
A few "Cumbria" undulations 😋 and some fabulous vistas (if you have the breath to look up)

For us, one of the funnel manager duties is to stop people getting in the way of the timekeepers or those giving out tokens.

We don't really get busy enough to warrant a full time funnel manager, but might be something to consider if it really becomes a problem.

RD for me today, in cold, persistent drizzle :-( Despite our winter course being all tarmac paths the runners looked like they'd been doing cross country when they finished, such was the run off from the grassy areas.

No problems apart from our token giver fainting at about finisher 250! (She was fine afterwards.) Luckily we had two token support volunteers so the handing out of tokens continued unabated :-)

We always have 2 funnel managers - one to shout/shepherd finishers through the funnel efficiently, one to maintain a check between the timekeepers and token givers.

In the past two weeks we've had well over 500 finishers but we were down to just over 400 today - I suspect those NY resolutions faltered in the face of really miserable weather!

Bournemouth was a real mud fest today. They'd reverted back to the old course which has more grass/mud. The course was even muddier as there had been a cross country event there on Thursday!

They say lightning doesn't strike twice

2 years ago I did Mansfield parkrun the run was ok but there were scanning issues so I was a unknown

So today I tried it again only to be told on arrival that It had been cancelled due to ice,I ran it anyway as a freedom,it would have been tricky with multiple runners so the right thing was to cancel.
I'm hoping for 3rd time lucky.

Chilly and damp on my touristing visit to Gunnersbury Park today. And long too!

Normally a two lapper with lap 2 being slightly shorter, but a last minute-noticed obstruction on the course meant it was two of the longer laps so it was probably at least 5.2km, if not a bit further. Nice enough though and very welcoming!

Gunnersbury was my home run before NF started.

Neckarau parkrun was totally lovely. Friendly team, beautiful one-lap run in the forest by the Rhine, and pancakes after. To recommended. :)
