I missed volunteering through oversleeping (rather than a legit reason like getting lost) once, Fields. Sent them a grovelling apology and they were absoutely fine: I went back volunteering there the following week. :)

Over 500 participants at York this morning. That start is getting crowded again!

A while back i absent mindedly came off a roundabout at the wrong exit and ended up detouring via the M11. Not actually that much longer once I’d stopped panicking and figured out what the route would be, but blew in a few minutes late apologising profusely. Reaction? VC laughing like a drain and telling me about another volunteer who’d been running a little late even before they absent mindedly drove to the wrong parkrun entirely…

Worse things happen at sea :)

Really sorry you had a panic attack Fields, that’s no fun at all. But having a panic attack and feeling embarrassed doesn’t mean anyone else will think any less of you. Sleep on it a couple of nights then send a short polite email. I’m absolutely sure you’ll be welcome back.

Fragile Do Not Bend
Fields, I’m an RD and 100% I’d be happy someone turned up, not cross they were late. I sometimes don’t get a chance to brief a new scanner until after the run has been set off anyway.

Hadn't registered Fields was down for scanning. That was my job yesterday and at five to nine, RD and VC were up at the start and I was on my own at base. Two more scanners arrived shortly afterwards, had never used the app before so had to check they were ok with that. Final scanner arrived 15 minutes 15 seconds later (our first finisher who got scanned then started scanning himself). Everything was fine. So long as there's someone who's had a bit of experience the RD might not even need to worry about anything but ticking them off on the sheet.

[Thanks for that Badger, I was more stressed by the missing finish tokens person I’d just found out about!]

[rightly so!] This was unusual obviously, generally it's much slicker than that. But it was all fine in the end.

57.5 Days of Pain
Glad you enjoyed Torvean despite the conditions AndyS. I like the cafe, but have yet to find time to visit after parkrun since Torvean started.
