Really don't be put off Fields. At some parkruns it's perfectly acceptable for the runners who finish say in the first 20 to then volunteer on scanning straight afterwards. So even if you turned up at 10 past nine you would still be fine I'm sure. Please don't feel you can't go there again - and if you don't want to meet the same RD for a while then you can check the roster and pick a week when it is a different RD/Volunteer Co-ordinator and try again.

Sometimes volunteers are late or simply don't arrive for one reason or another. On my second time as RD the tailwalker overslept and didn't get there until 2 minutes to 9. It was stressful but I had grabbed a runner who often volunteers and asked her to tail walk if the volunteer didn't show at all.

Yes don't worry about it - I overslept for volunteering once, sent an email, turned up the following week, they were fine about it.

Good to see that Eden Project has reopened again, after a few weeks closed because the runners weren't masking up.
I guess thats back on the parkrun bucket list for me!

It's funny reading about the people getting lost on the way to parkrun. I don't think I ever have although I did go to the wrong park in Ellesmere Port but found the right one in plenty of time. Fortunately I always leave myself loads of time if I am going to a different one to normal.

But if I have an anxiety dream it's always to do with parkrun and I am inevitably late. But last weekend I had a dream that I started off running at Frimley Lodge but the park was suddenly much bigger, and I couldn't find my way round the course, and then I couldn't even find the car! And then I woke up :)

A few years ago I had a similar dream but the parkrun course went through a house and you had to squeeze though a tiny trapdoor and I couldn't. Interestingly though someone posted a video last weekend of a cross-country course in Italy where you run through a house so it wasn't that extreme!

Just remembered - a few years ago I was doing the run briefing but it snowed. Parkrun was on, but I couldn't get out of my road. Someone said they'd collect me, but they also had to dig their car out. I arrived about 8.59 and they waited for me. Very embarrassing but couldn't be helped.

For no connected reason, we had at least a dozen people arrive late at Witney on Saturday. I’ve been timekeeper there on several occasions and can only recall the occasional individual arriving after the start.
Because we have an out and back section at the start, the latecomers were a little concerned about running against the main flow, but there were no incidents.

We’re hoping to do Derry parkrun this Saturday. Looked on their page and it says there’s a temporary course. 5.3k anyone ever hear of the like?

So for the first time since 2018 probably I am volunteering at parkrun.

I am doing the first timer briefing.

I'm running there and then looking after the Boy and the Woofer but knew I could fit this in.

Tentative first steps at engaging with what is now my home event. With my other half being part of the new generation of parkrunners it is time for me to embrace it a little more again.

Temporary courses can be longer than 5k but must never be shorter

This is from the volunteer hub on course design

An alternative course should be slower than regular courses (in most cases this means they should be longer so that participants don’t achieve PBs that they can never attain when they move back to the main course).
