Once a month at Cheltemham. Decided not to parkrun - damp and windy seafronts are not appealing this morning. |

Something different for me today. A Polish parkrun - Bydgoszcz parkrun, which I still can’t pronounce (it kind of sounds like I’ve sneezed…). I got a hotel about 2 miles from the event so jogged there, did the event at an easy effort and then jogged back. They’ve been going quite a while as this was their 361st event at this location. It was a nice event, flat, along the canal, and over bridges/sluices, and I think that’s my first parkrun event I’ve ran whilst it’s been snowing. This isn’t a complaint - just an observation, and differences with U.K. events. There were zero marshals or signs up on the course, and there were 3 or 4 places where it would be very easy to make a wrong turn, or carry straight on when there was a hard left/right. At the top and bottom ends of the course, the route turned onto a narrow pavement with traffic on the road. I can’t help but think this course wouldn’t happen in the U.K., but I’m glad I did it and it’s my first Polish parkrun. As an aside the event name is the city name, not the park name, but it’s the only event in the city. I arrived fairly late last night so although I grabbed some food before I went to bed, I haven’t seen much of the town yet as the parkrun was the opposite direction to the town. I’ll go for a wander soon and of course figure out the local food, and find somewhere decent to eat for later on |

LazyDaisy fair enough, I looked out for you as I didn't see this message. Wasn't too bad condition wise.

Big_G parkrun outside UK do seem to be a lot more relaxed with marshals and signs. I did Halle in Germany last year with a total of 5 runners, a run director and 1 person scanning with minimal cones and signs on route. Lucky for us Brits the first finisher was a local so we just followed him on the 3 lap course.

I suppose it reflects the fact that each country has different levels of insurance requirements and probably different legal requirements, and different levels of accepted/required Health & Safey standards and so forth. I was amazed at the lack of the latter at a Dutch leisure park a few years back, it was somewhat refreshing to a degree but also a tad alarming at times. |
