Last year I went to Ziegelwiese in Germany to collect my Z. There were 6 finishers including the tail walker. Three of us were Brits and the run director explained the locals were away on holiday.

There was another German one that only had two finishers one week. I think they timed themselves. I'll see if I can find it. This one! parkrun.com.de

and in particular: parkrun.com.de

57.5 Degrees of Pain
24 at Drumchapel, 25 at Strathclyde. Co-incidentally, my two highest placings My mate was last that day at Strathclyde - in 34:52. Changed days etc. So not really competing overall, but might be in with a shout for relatively smallest field, given that Strathclyde has an average of 201 finishers. The fact that there was a good covering of snow and it was so cold the loch was frozen might have had something to do with it.
Almost exactly 10 years ago I did Strathclyde in the teeth of a storm and there were still 150 there.

Footscray Meadows must be one of the smallest in Greater London. On 14 Jan they had 17 finishers.

Could the solution to overwhelming attendances at inaugurals and silly numerical milestones be to heavily promote attending the smallest event possible?

But if a small event suddenly gets mobbed they aren't ready for it

Just saying :-)
