I was over in Dublin on Saturday, and managed to get my best ever finishing position at Darndale, where I finished 2nd (out of 12) in just over 25 minutes.

The first time I ran there, back in 2018, I picked that parkrun just because it was small (23'06 got me 6th out of 24 that day), but the friendly atmosphere makes it one to return to.

There were 13 when I did Frederic Back. I was first woman in a time that I've not even been first Louise at other parkruns!

One of the longer parkrun days today..

So, it goes a little something like this..

parkrun (Skipton), friend driving, my car left at theirs

breakfast at the Skipton cafe

post breakfast wander round Skipton Castle grounds and the woods, 4 miles or so

back to car..

discover key has been lost somewhere since visiting the car after the cafe

check with cafe, check with reception, nothing has been handed in..

about 12 o'clock by this time, nothing posted on Skipton pr FB either...

check with mutual friend on core team, nowt..

start to retrace earlier walk - I realise five minutes in, that this being a fancy electric car, with accompanying app, might be able to unlock the car with the phone (and at least release my car keys from the boot (so can at least drive my car back from Leeds to Skipton)

you can unlock the car via the app!! go back to car..

...it's never been set up, video call to ID peoples won't allow it to be set up without photo ID (locked in boot)

retrace earlier walk, going slightly dizzy with floor and wall checking, nothing doing

Get two trains back from Skipton, changing in Leeds, walk a couple of miles back from station to recover family members spare key to house (original locked in car)

Get spare key (never used) and spare batteries (and passport if app support needed)

Wave hi to my car in passing and walk back to station (downhill this time : ) wait for train, back to leeds

twenty minutes for train 4, then another 20 mins after this to join two trains together and back to Skipton..

back to car - leisure centre now shut, just before six

spare key is dead, keyless entry won't work.

before changing battery (and risking a failed sync, or keyless thing not working) google the YouTube instructions for how to take the trim off the doorhandle to uncover the hidden physical keyhole and at least open the door

It works!!

but.. it's a keyless car, it knows it shouldn't open its doors when there's no key present, alarm goes off..

..can't open the boot, can't open any of the other doors, 4 door car so have to climb over the seats and go through the hatch into the boot to drag out the contents..

Rescue MY keys, and then discover that the original key was in the boot for the entire time..

it's not possible according to VW to lock the key in the car, because it knows it's in the car, and won't let you lock it, the owner knows this, and it's all over all of the promo blurb..

except, it seems for a tiny 2/3 inch bermuda triangle section right in the furthest point of the boot where it ended up which screws the entire system up!

Pen Y Ghent might have to wait for another day ;)

If it ever happens, top tip is to go find a rugby team and get them to tip the car up and shake the contents of the boot closer to the dashboard 🤣

OMG what a stress to endure in one day.

Mine was a lot more simple, park the car just over half a mile from parkrun start. Run passed the car doing parkrun and it opens at my car fob is in my pocket then it bleeps it closed again after I have left the motion range only for it to do again as I do the run in reverse back to the finish line. Luckily no one behind me wants to get into my car.
