I’m an RD at Rogiet parkrun and will he tailwalking at this Saturday’s inaugural Severn Bridge parkrun. They are requesting that people please do not attend this Saturday, with them mostly being a new to parkrun volunteer team.

You'll be able to tailwalk pretty quickly if people don't attend ;-)

Look forward to hearing how Severn Bridge goes! I'm doing a 5 mile night race over the bridge in November so plan to do the parkrun sometime before to get an idea of how it'll feel :-)

Would there be any way to keep an inaugural completely quiet, i wonder. Say you had a core team in place, but didn't go in for all the social media page stuff, could you have a low-key inaugural without hundreds finding out - is is possible?

No, not the way it currently works, as all new parkruns will be visible in the wiki and on the parkrun site. Plus, unless you want a first event with no runners, there will need to be some publicity, and once announced word will spread.

Ask Goofee what they did for Reading 2 - I think the website didn't even go live until the day of the inaugural, which is about as low-key as it gets.

There was one mentioned a few dozen pages back in That London where nothing went up until 0730 Saturday morning. Can't remember which but I think it was near Tooting Common pr?

Must you have a social media presence though?

Dvorak - Tooting indeed - there were lots of whispers and to be honest the date was spread about but no major social media frenzy - 200 turned up. I guess that there will always be a few with an uncontrollable urge to make pronouncements on social media about future events even though they have no direct involvement or connection with that area.

There will always be folk who can't hold their water, and I've been guilty of spreading word myself - but this is a potential challenge that intrigues me - could one have an inaugural with a handful of runners and no sideshow nonsense

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
