I was going to suggest Lanark to my BIL, Dvorak, but I'll maybe leave it a couple of weeks. He's local, but new to the whole parkrun thing, so possibly waiting until it cools off a bit might be better.

Re: Girvan, wonder who that could have been Dvorak?

Was wondering if this is the first time two events have launched on the same day in Scotland? Lanark Moor has been keeping anything but a low profile in its build up and wanted the launch to coincide with the Lanark trail festival weekend. Between that and Strathclyde being off giving it a few weeks to settle.

I seem to recall someone in the hierarchy saying scheduling multiple inaugurals in a region on the same day was deliberate to spread the numbers.

I thought that the launch of Thornbury and Eastville both equal distance either side of the former Little Stoke on the same day was a master stroke, I have it on good authority that it was just a fluke though. And with the numbers that then descended on Eastville clearly didn't make a whole lot of difference either.

There being another new event nearby starting up this weekend, whilst two of the other ones are both shut down just confirms there isn't any real plan to it all and they all just making it up as they go along. I'm just hoping that nobody falls in the river.

The nearby Caldicot event got away with a nice quiet launch and very small numbers, I only ended up going to the inaugural by chance. The new event is being well publicised through various groups and is a bit too iconic a location to be able to sneak under the radar.

Hadn't even realised that Caldicot was being resurrected!

Caldicot isn't being resurrected. Sorry for the confusion.
It moved and then a couple of weeks later changed it's name and became a new event.

It is less than a parkrun away from the new event starting this weekend though but despite seemingly being in the same area I expect a vastly different inaugural attendance due to the publicity that the Severn Bridge event has been getting on social media...and the fact that it is uniquely unique and people like that kind of thing.

The new event you're talking about will certainly be on my to-do list but not in peak summer traffic time!

I wouldn't worry about traffic on that section of the M4, nobody really uses that bridge unless they are lost... or on their way to get lost in south Wales.

Sorry to be a pedant, but "uniquely unique"?

I'm probably getting my podcasts mixed up now but I think it was a thing on TPS back in the day.

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
