I am jealous of Meglet having 3 LYSs. We have a couple of shops in the city centre that sell not-very-exciting wool along with other stuff, but aren't really proper LYSs.

I don’t have all three near me. Though between Yarn etc in Harrogate and Knitting Pretty in Knaresborough I’m fairly well catered for. Yarn Etc carries Scheepjes (which I’ve fallen in love with from doing the CAL) and Stylecraft as well as some local suppliers and main brands so I’m fairly well catered for!

I have a super LYS in Maryport run by a real enthusiast and I don't go often enough.

We used to have the Sheep Shop in Cambridge which closed down when Sarah who owned it couldn’t make enough to live off. We have John Lewis which is not brilliant, Hobbycraft which doesn’t carry much I want, Sew Knit Craft which is mainly quilting and sewing machines but has a small yarn section and the Cambridge Fabric Company which has very expensive fabric. Out of town we have Backstitch which is good for fabric and has a small amount of yarn and then there’s Escape and Create in St Ives which is brilliant but only fabric, no yarn

It's a good job we've got the internet!
(Not that I actually need to buy any more wool at present, sitting just a few yards away from a cupboardful of the stuff.)

I fell into the trap of thinking that I needed to find The Perfect Pattern for each yarn in my stash. This is a load of nonsense, of course, as more lovely yarn is always just around the corner. We should just knit/crochet with what we have, confident in the knowledge that another lovely yarn will come to us when we need it.

I have more expensive yarn than ability, then always feel I should save it for when I get better at knitting! I let the girl choose the wool for the hat from my stash and she picked one of the fanciest skeins and I'm really enjoying using it. I've now decided I'm either going to knit it or sell it, it's all too lovely to keep in plastic boxes until my skills improve.

I just wait till yarn speaks to me! I have some special handspun skeins that I’ve made and kept but it is only yarn at the end if the day and when I do find a use for something, even if it’s something I’m going to sell it really pleases me.
I spun a really bright green yarn a couple of years ago and wondered if I would ever find a use for it, then I had a dyeing accident with a rainbow that wasn’t quite right, too green and spun that up too, they worked really well together in a woven scarf! Happy accidents are the best.
It just makes me sad to think if anything happened to me all my stash might end up down the second hand shop, I really just finish my will and write a letter so my husband knows what to do with it all! 😂
