Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I couldn't break 8 minutes for 2 km currently. I don't think anyway.

If we're listing absolute PBs then I have a 6:44.6 to my name from 1998.

Welcome to Fetch, Jef. I've got a feeling I recognise that mug from the old Concept2 UK forum!

Nellers, feel free to add the time. I'm sure I'll never get back there again though. Too much pain!.

Oranj, yes, tis I. I believe I did try recruit you to Sub7irc when I was in charge but you were far more on two wheels ! :-) I hope time has treated you better than it has me ? :-/

I've added your all time PBs in at the top of the list so it's clear what and when they are. Hope that works for everyone.

How much rowing were you each doing back when you hit those times?

Lots! 6 days a week for me. Evening gym and erg sessions in the week, double water session on a Saturday morning and a single one on Sunday. Kept it up for about a year.

We used to do a 20 min test too. Can’t remember how far I got with that. I suspect I’ve got it written down in a notebook in the loft with a bunch of my rowing kit.

For that 6:44 I spent the summer rowing and sculling on the water, as well as a bit of running and cycling as cross-training. Through the winter I'd erg about 60k a week and there would always be some short sharp intervals once a week, plus one long erg of 18-21k. But being in a rowing club, we'd also have circuits, a club 'run' and a couple of hours on the water at the weekend.

Yes Jef, still as madly fit (by most people's standards) as ever. My main involvement in bike racing these days is as a official timekeeper, although I still race occasionally. More of a runner again now.

Like Pothunter, I didn't do this for long, maybe three years once I realised that at 1m78 I was always going to lose to someone taller, with longer levers, but the same weight. But I had some good fun racing in the 'small' seats like bow or stroke, and a bit of lightweight sculling in 1x and 4x.
