Black Erg is deffo the way to go Muttley. Although they show the dirt more!

Muttley Re your PM3. I've got working parts from 2 of those... minus one LCD screen and a USB port on the second.

It would cost you postage but I'd be happy to give yours an overhaul to see if its just a common problem. I've successfully fixed a few.

.....but if you DO have the money. PM5 ..or a whole new machine is the way to go. I love the Bluetooth connectivity of it.

Cheers Jef, that's very kind, but I've already found a taker for the old erg. As soon as they collect on Thursday it's straight to the C2 website for a new machine.

Once the idea planted itself in my head it wasn't going to leave until actioned ...

Probably a very good choice.

New is always best and we can always justify it to ourselves one way or another :-)

My credit card finger is itching and I might not hold out until they take the old one away. I've sought and received permission from the household finance director (which is me, there is no Mrs Muttley) so I'm in the clear :-)

:-D

Did you get a good price for your old one ?

I paid £780 for my first model D in 2006 and got £700 for it in 2014 when I sneaked an early black version out of the Nottingham C2 headquarters.

No, I figured that a 15-year-old erg with a duff PM3 would have limited resale value. Having decided to treat myself, I decided to skip the faff of retrofitting and/or selling and offered it to a nearby rowing club. The guy there said they could either fix it or otherwise just use it for warmups.

New machine is on order.

Well done on the 10k PB Andy! Have you tried Ergzone yet? I used it last night for the first time, I like the easy programming and being able to see the stats from your previous split, but I also missed some of the metrics on display on Ergdata, will continue with Ergzone for a while though.

Good for you Muttley, exciting times! I upgraded to a new Erg early last year when second hand prices were sky high. My black erg is slower than my grey one though, but I think that's down to the erger rather than the erg 🤣

That's exciting news Muttley! The black machine will undoubtedly help you smash your PBs.

I didn't have the strength (or time) to go hunting for my C2 logbook id/password for ergzone, so stuck with ergdata today Craggy.

After a couple of rest days (one much needed, and another enforced by working into the evening), I almost missed today's row, with an hour after getting back from work spent helping move a fallen tree that was across our rural A road. Not one of ours, but we were worried that a speeding car would go into it in the dark, and ended up helping our neighbour move it as they had a chainsaw to chop it up.

After bailing out of a 2k at almost halfway (too hurty too soon and not fully focused), I used my rested legs to hit a PB. The daft 100m attempt tied my previous best, so I went for it again, with very rapid, forced recoveries, rowing short, using excessive back swing and even some shouting, and was chuffed to shave a couple of tenths off the previous attempt. There were lots of 1:22 and 1:21 splits after what felt like ages to get up to top speed from a stationary start.

Buoyed by that, I went for a much tougher one minute max effort, and pushed the PB by just one metre. Happy with that, and clear proof that a shiny black PM5 machine will make you row faster 😀

And to finish, a lucky dip video of 4x4min intervals at r30 at 2k+1s pace, with long (5 min) rests that ended up being appreciated. That was a mixed bag!

I bagged the daily champion and my first half marathon in 1:38

I’m surprised I lasted that long on the erg and my backside knows about it today

Nice PBs Andy, that 338m in one minute is impressive 💪

Well done Dave, that's a good debut, hope your backside recovers soon! Good thing about doing a half marathon is that rows of around 10k suddenly feel very manageable both physically and mentally.

I did 8 x 500m the other night and 8 x 250m last night, trying to regain some speed.
