Good session Muttley! It was wild outside here too - I didn't fancy rowing on the patio today so I moved indoors, I'd planned a 4 x 5k rate ladder but I felt really warm on the warm up so I just did a steady 20k @r20.
20k seemed like a long row until I saw Andy had done a 50k ๐ฒ amazing Andy well done, and at a good pace too (it's always difficult to work out pace from Fetch's minute miling) but that looks to be about 2:12 pace? How was it, did you enjoy it?

Pffft ... and there was me thinking that my 13-odd km yesterday had a decent chance of making me daily champion. Must try harder!

Yeah, 50k is quite a long way, eh? But just like long runs, it's amazing how the "short" distances like 10k and HM slip by.
In my defense, yesterday was meant to be a 33 mile race for me, entered months ago with the hope of injury being recovered from. So I was sensible and didn't run in the end. 3 miles running in January and 5 miles in December is a little on the undertrained side of things. So a long row was good distraction.
Yes Craggy, I guess I did mostly enjoy it. The last hour was hard, with calf cramp at 3 hours. And I made it tough by aiming to beat 3:40, instead of coasting to 3:45. Random youtube watching early on, then a two-hour Rowalong video as company to the end. Ten power strokes every 1k, and every 10 minutes helped break things up.

Negative split was the way to do it
But pushing hard towards the end came at a price.
Always worth it afterwards though. Hands are much better now - went for a rest day today, so you might top the table today Muttley! A bit like a very hungry caterpillar having a nice salad
ION, on Saturday, I pushed my 4-minute PB out by 12 seconds. And almost tied my 100m best (0.1s/500m off). Talk about extremes!

Disclaimer: rowing 50k after three or four months of erging isn't normal. Apologies to new rowers and random fetches visiting every page for the addiction position thread. But being a frustrated injured runner with 50+ ultramarathons ticked off makes silly distances a bit more normal to me.
Craggy & Muttley: 20k & 13k are distances that most rowers would struggle with, so page 447 of this thread is not normal. We'll done to both of you.
I did 4 x 2k (with 2 min rests) this morning. A steady start meant each one could get 10 seconds quicker than the previous one...and 20s for the final one since all was going well (but still at 2k pace plus 6s, so comfortable).

I doff my cap to you, andy. Nice positive splitting too. An hour is as much as I (and my arse) can stand!
This morning was 2 x 3000 at 22 then 24 spm, reduced from The Plan's 24 and 26 because I do struggle with the higher rates. A decent medium effort sesh.

Haha Andy I guess if you're used to regularly running races that take 10+ hours then 3h40m on the erg doesn't seem too extreme! Great splits you posted, 30k at sub 2:10 pace having already rowed 20k is very impressive! 100k next? ๐
Nice sessions this morning Andy and Muttley, I'll just be doing a short row later followed by a trip to Cleethorpes where Angie is running a Promenade 5k TT before Sundays Stamford 30k, I'll be on coaching duties/coat holding/eating chips

Good to see some rowing miles from you Nellars. I'm actually thinking of running - I push the boat out every month with a run, just to check that I'm still broken. Visit to the physio this evening, so we'll see what he has to say. No doubt lots of the usual advice about keeping stretching, etc.
And the 100k thoughts were already there. I've even had a look at the 12 hour thing too, but that's proper silly. Whereas "just" a 100k? Well... And there's not many of them in the C2 logbook rankings (only 83 crazies in the whole world, for the 2022 season - I checked already).
Have fun in Cleethorpes Craggy. Those chips will be well deserved by the sounds of it.
