Good to see you both back Nellers and Muttley!

That's a great effort Andy, you deserve a lay down (and a beer). Your first two half marathons are very similar to mine, I did a 1:35 to see if I could do the distance and then a 1:26.40. You've definitely moved a big step closer to a sub 3 marathonπŸ˜‰

7k today to complete the C2 January Revolution Challenge - I chose the big burn which was to row at least 20,000 calories in January πŸš£β€β™‚οΈ

That's a coincidence Craggy - very similar times. My first HM last month was 21100m (typo on previous post) and was a gentle push for a top distance. Today's was just seconds slower than yours, and I had looked that 1:27:11 was the 80th C2 logbook centile, so that set me a target. Your run times are seriously impressive, so if I can get even close to what you were doing, I'll be pleased.

The six minute cycles of r20/r24 did help with variety, but I did end up feeling the r20s were not best for a PB time. A few times I hit r25/r26 and focused on where the handle was smoothly moving and it just felt right throughout each stroke. Ommm... it's good when that happens. ION, I have blisters on the old blisters on my calluses. Nothing too bad though.

Well done on the 200k calories target! I picked the easiest option of 15 hours, passed comfortably a few days back. It was the right call with work being busy.

Thanks Andy, my best run times were approx 20 years ago but I remember them like they were yesterday. With the power you have on the erg and your endurance background you have huge potential and you're already smashing out great times after only a few months!

Yes I imagine it would be hard to keep the pace up on the r20 sections, the variation would stop you getting bored though.

I did a continuous 30k today alternating 1k steady and 4k at target marathon pace, not having any static rests was good practise for drinking without stopping, and trying to change head bands on the go 🀣

Brilliant effort Craggy! Impressive! Great to see what I should aspire to.

And yes, that drinking and rowing isn't easy. Yesterday, all the faff with drinking (more often as time went on), and using both a towel and a buff kept interrupting that important split time.

I'm pretty sure that Dave Wallace, winner of the first West Highland Way race and previous record holder westhighlandwayrace.org switched to endurance rowing, so it's been done before. I've always been one of the bigger guys at ultras, so maybe rowing is more suited to my build.

This morning's sesh brings me to 98k metres for the month, so ahead of the game for the target of 1 million by year's end.

Andy, yeah I'm trying to continue to row one handed while I grab a drink, it all feels a bit cack handed though as I'm very dominant on my right side.

There's some good rowers in my lightweight category who used to be fast runners (I remember one won the Robin Hood half marathon 20+ years ago), if you're a bigger runner then you'll bring both power and endurance to the erg!

Well done Muttley, you're off to a great start and ahead of target before that upcoming pesky short month 😁

So ... I'm doing a few workouts from the 40+ plan that I circulated a while back. This morning was 6 x 2 mins on and off, the plan it say do two each at 30, 32 and 34 spm but I can't go that fast so I did 26, 28 and 30. The idea was to positive split throughout aided by the increasing stroke rate. I managed that until I dropped 4 metres on the final rep as fatigue crept up. But I held the stroke rates okay. A decent workout all things considered.

Good work on playing with increasing stroke rates Muttley. I do like having rate targets to tell me what to do so I don't drift all over the place. But 34spm sounds like fun... eventually.

I felt a bit lousy this evening after a 75 minute dental appointment yesterday afternoon (soup then yoghurt for dinner, avoiding dribbling, and certainly no rowing). So I decided to go for it since I was feeling a bit negative, and tried a "sensible" 2k TT, using a rowalong pace video, with 500m splits at -1s, +1s, +1s & -1s...

And it almost worked, except for not being able to pick up those extra two seconds for the final split. A teensy PB, shaving 0.3s from the previous approximate time, but was still hanging on for dear life for the final two minutes. The "weight adjusted" button ergdata shaved off 25 seconds, so that's got to ve an incentive for Spring.

Had a long warm down (an hour, since OH has headed out to Book Club) to make up for no rowing yesterday.

Nice session Muttley, good idea to reign in the rate, you could possibly aim to up the rate by one or two next time you repeat the session. I did a similar session tonight, 6 x 500m/2r, it's a looong time since I rowed R32, it was quite unpleasant but also quiet enjoyable!

Congrats on your new pb Andy, impressed that you was able to clock a PB while you wasn't feeling 100%, plus it's a verified 2k time this time πŸ’ͺ nice warm down too 😁

Well done on the shiny new pb, Andy. Teensy or not, a pb is a pb. Incremental gains is what it's all about!

Today was supposed to be a long slow run day but ye gods it's wild outside so I stopped in and bothered the erg instead: 4 x 15 minutes @20 spm, hr capped to 130 (ceiling of UT2 for me). As with run-walk, I find regular short breaks don't hit the overall pace much if at all but do help suppress the hr.
