Top banana, folks. Finally to take a seat at 8:30pm, after dinner. Couldn't decide what to do, but the blisters on the calluses on my fingers (!) & (really it's not too bad) we're fine, so I jumped into a Dark Horse Rowing HIIT video for 3x 4min and got the push needed. Added other random bits to get to 10k.
I guess that a decade of ultramarathons has warnped my perspective of longer distances/times! And yes, I'm already thinking about 50k or 100k, but maybe in sensible chunks over a day. For now, anyway.
P.S. 2k test needed soon. I had a look at my last two PBs from December. The first was a hideous r30 positive split; the second (4s quicker) was r23 and only a bit positive. Now looking at deliberate rate transitions each 500m for a better time, maybe? Is that a thing?

Did my first workout of the year. I’m doing a cross training challenge with a mate and running doesn’t count so give me a bump to get on the rower

Nice one Dave, keep mixing it up. WHEN my running resumes, the rowing is going to be staying too.
Did my second 60 minute row today, and the first with any pace. 14 682 metres for a first shot - phew!

That is definitely filling the hungry hour with 60 minutes distance rowed! Well done, mate.
Had a day off yesterday and felt much better for it today when I did my 5 x 10 minutes @ r20. Actually felt quite strong throughout and enjoyed it more than I expected.

That's a bonus to enjoy it Nellars. I sacrificed that for an extra few 100m. Definitely UT1 (with survival r20), and ended up swapping a buff from one hand to the other to remove sweat.
Really enjoying a lunchtime San Miguel now (0.0% of course, sensible head on today)

Very sensible, mate. I will be hitting the Heineken 0.0 hard later on and feeling like I earned it!
There is always a big feeling of satisfaction after a tough session but enjoying it during big a session is less common.
This is week 3 of my plan and my first “hard” week, so I just need to do the 60 minutes UT2 tomorrow and I have an easier week to do. Looking forward to that!

Missed a longer Sunday row - other things kept popping up, plus I felt a bit not-100%.
Decided to target some weaker PBs and warmed-up then went for a push with the 500m distance. The first half was fine, but omg for trying to hang in there the final 200m. Ooft!
But another 4s was taken off the PB (only tried this twice before) so happy with that. Moved from the 70th up to the 83rd centile for old blokes in the C2 rankings which is positive feedback.
And after a (variable) warm-down/youtube/just row extra, decided to bash out a 100m. I'm still getting the start wrong, but another 0.2s shaved off the PB is still progress. 😀

Can you stop it, _andy. You're making us old hands look bad! A 1:35 for 500m? That's smashed my PB out of the park. Well done, mate.
I did a fairly easy 2 x 12:30 @ r20 this morning. Pleased by both how much faster I was than 3 weeks ago, and by how much lower my HR was despite the higher speed. Progress.
