You’re pulling ahead Sinj. Still only 5/7. I’m in leic stet with no chance of a gym trip.

Morning all. Just some more distance to report. And I managed it without a cat.

There is no feline overlord in Muttley Mansions but in a previous hovel the neighbours' cat spent more time with me than it did with them - and it would sprint for the door as soon as the erg got pulled out and assembled. It is an odd puss indeed that sits on your lap as you row!

I, for one, welcome our feline overlords.

I've revised my plan to cut out some of the volume and let me recover enough to hit the paces on the faster stuff. Tonight I did 6 x 500m with a target of 1:45 pace. I managed:
1:44.9
1:44.7
1:44.5
1:44.1
1:42.8
1:42.3

Really pleased with that. Probably could have risked going a little harder for the early efforts but after the last week or so I was just wanting to get it done in the right zone. It's done my confidence no end of good.

(Oh, and with the warm up and down I got over 10km for another day of the mud season challenge)

It was, PH, thanks. It's got me in quite a positive mindset.

Rowed a low rate 10k this evening. Had set up thinking I might do an hour but I absolutely don't need to chase the metres and pay with fatigue. Threshold session tomorrow and I need to be fresh enough to do it right.

Put in a good threshold intervals sesh tonight. 5 x 1500m @ 1:55 target pace and managed that...…..comfortably isn't right but you know what I mean.

Final results for the World Rowing indoor Sprints have me in 322nd in the age group.

Sinj got 159th. Nice work mate!

Wondering about my plan for the rest of this week and next.

From looking at what I've done so far and how things feel I reckon I've probably got all the endurance I need, and I think I've upped my anaerobic threshold a bit over the last month.

What I don't feel I've affected so much is my actual top speed. I can probably hold it for a bit longer (we'll see on Sunday) but I'm not able to go any faster.

Tomorrow is scheduled for a tempo efforts session. I'm toying with dropping that out and replacing with with some shorter anaerobic, speed-focussed intervals.

The downside of that being 2 anaerobic sessions in a week, plus the 2k on Sunday is a lot of fast stuff.

Unsure what I should do for the best right now. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Slacker alert!! Did my first row for 3+ weeks yesterday, a 5k with a few 100m speed bumps, it felt heavy. Been running a bit as my knee seems ok following my cortisone injection in December, so thought I'd get out there before it wears off. Running is also hard work!!

That's two really good sessions there Nellers! I agree that sharpening up with some shorter intervals might be a good idea, maybe something like 10x1'/1' rest, at 2-3 seconds faster than target 2k pace.

Thanks mate. Might give that a try.

Also you’re only a slacker if you’ve done nothing. How many run miles have you clocked up in those three weeks?

Not many mate I had a blank week with a cold, then I've done 3x 3m and 3x 5m. I suffered from DOMS after the first few runs as I hadn't run for 10 months, but gradually finding my running legs.

Do you feel you're close to PB shape? Are your training times similar to last year when you did 7.03?
