This is interesting ^. Although I'm currently not considering another marathon I might do in the future. I followed a Hal Higdon schedule for Chester (last October) and some of my long runs were well over 3 hours! Perhaps I need to look at that again if I plan to do another marathon.

It was Keith Anderson that did the camp I went on!

I totally disagree on the 3hr limit.

Doesn't prepare a 5hr runner adequately

I coach sub sub 3hr runners who do 3hr runs.

Works for them

I think I must have turned this feature off. I'm afraid I don't trust Garmin to tell me how to run, thank you! :-) G

It's not on every watch. I'm not sure following the Garmin suggestions is any different to following a plan with not much thought into how it works TBH. I think lots of people do that...

I don't remember having that feature on my previous Garmin watches, only on my fairly recently purchased 745.

...and on the 745, as you found out, it doesn't respond to races so only works for general fitness.

Yes. Hence the strange training suggestions the day before a race. Obviously I said :-p to it!

Yes, you can't use the race widget on the 745 so Garmin just tries to improve your general fitness with its suggestions, regardless of your goal race. I would guess that it probably aims at 5-10k fitness, based on the training load distribution it views as ideal. Which is fair enough as they are popular race distances and often that's where people start, first parkrun and then progress to 10k.

If you're training for a marathon, it complains about too much low aerobic training. I could also imagine that if you're training for track events, sprints or mid distance up to 3000m, it will probably tell you off for too much high aerobic and anaerobic training and not enough low aerobic.

About This Thread

Maintained by EvilPixie
According to my Garmin this morning my body battery was at just 41 and I was "strained"
I have been strained for most days in the last 2 weeks
My body battery has also been low

So today it suggested a threshold run of up to an hour!

What's your Garmin say?
