Fierce and Focused Fleecy
Well it’s a process, Lizzie. Actually getting stuff out of the house is the hardest bit for me.

Agree Fleecy. I do want to avoid landfill that I get paralysed by finding a way to get rid of the stuff responsibly.

Looks very familiar Carps - when have you been to my house?
But we did tackle it a few weeks ago and now it's a perfectly tidy, empty guest room.

I remember that photo, Carp. It helped me to be at peace with Fellmouse's room, which eL Bee! and I set about a few times; Fellmouse was always most appreciative, but drifted back to her previous level of mess. But then, she's mine and I'm more comfortable when the edges of a room are softened with some clutter.

TeeBee: sometimes you just have to be ruthless. If you see what most people chuck out at the tip it’s horrifying, I try to freecycle and charity shop stuff but there are some things which just aren’t rescuable.

I went into Ravelry for the first time since January, decluttered my inbox, and responded to all the credible enquiries about yarn I'm offering for sale (almost my entire stash, for it's all lovely but I have too much). In no time at all I had four responses of, "Yes, I still want it." Just a small declutter, not enough to be visible, but it generated half a dozen race entry fees :)

TeeBee our “tip” is now a recycling centre and even the stuff that doesn’t go into the shop or one of the dedicated areas like metal, goes into a big bin to be made into fuel. It does still seem wasteful but I can’t bear having stuff we don’t want or use.

Yes I was going to say the same, our household waste site has all sorts of different collections, including fluorescent tubes, Wood, cardboard, metal, electrical etc. Though I was horrified to see a large number of paperback books in the paper recycling bin when I went with Teen 2 to get rid of her GCSE schoolwork.

Hope the move went well .B., having to find a home for something in your new place really does focus you on ‘do I really want this?’

It did (eventually after some stressful times) go well thanks. We are happy to be here and not too much to do to it.

I gave up on T1's room several years ago. Every so often I would force her to tidy it, usually by threats, but I think it resulted in the middle of the mess being pushed further into and under things, and the top layer being skimmed off.

Before she went to uni she cleared and sorted some, but under her stuffed and broken furniture was left for me.

Maggots, for starters.

".... This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day."
