I should have written 'than use an electric kettle'.

I'm still using the elc kettle but making a determined effort to only fillto the two cup mark. For one mug.

Or use a full kettle and a thermos for spare hot water?

Fizz :-)
The other question is how much would the electric kettle cost? How long would it take the energy savings to recover that cost?

And how bad is the electric kettle when it goes into.landfill? They are largely plastic! And don't last as long as a metal one that goes on the gas hob. I have bought one only once. I am 57... It is 38 years old and will keep doing its thing while I live :)

I read a while ago about the horrendous cost of keeping a fridge/freezer on all the time. I can't remember the figures, but I've got a second one in the garage that I don't use very much. It doesn't work all that well anyway, so I've emptied it, turned it off and it'll be going to the tip!

I was going to get a third freezer for my new building, to freeze fresh herbs and super berries to make medicine in winter... But decided against it. I have a fridge in there in stead, for all my seeds, which liberates half my house fridge, which makes my freezer space in the house freezer more suitable so I can liberate space in the porch one for fresh berries and the like...
Other herbs I am drying in stead. Less potent but good enough if I run out of fresh tinctures in winter.

So I have 2x fridge and 2x freezer rather than 3x freezer now...

Hot water cilinders are apparently worse by the way... I have 2, one in each building, but only run at half capacity unless I have guests and on a timer to only heat up once every 24 hrs for 2 hours. This saves me a small fortune!

Previously, I had it running on full capacity all the time.

I submitted my month end meter readings yesterday.

Still waiting for the electricity cost but looks like my credit will have increased by £80-£100 in the last month

My payment increased by £75 and we have been careful over our use of energy. Plus we are into the milder spell of weather

I am wondering if I let this go and build up credit for the winter or do I reduce my payment and get a refund.

Bazoaxe - I had the same thought, to build up a decent credit balance to make anything that happens Oct+ a little less painful.

But if we get the £200 'loan' in October that should be enough to cushion the winter increases for me. My supplier hasn't increased my DD since the price increase but as I'm all electric and won't need heating after this month I might not need to pay more yet.
