I'm on a 1 year fixed tariff with E.On where I currently pay 120 quid a month for gas and elec. Just been on their website and they are quoting 4 grand on their current 1 year fixed deal versus about 1300 now. That's a 200% increase, which is a heck of a shock. I thought it was supposed to average 54%? I can get a 2 year fix with OVO which would come in at about £2600 which seems like a hell of a difference to E.On. Anyone any thoughts on wth is going on and what you would do in this situation? |

I've been with OVO for years and have been quoted £375 for 1 or 2 year fix which is about double current plan which ends 31/01! Puzzled about the 54% too.

Isn't the 54% the increase from the energy cap prices as at the end of March to the new energy cap prices from April 1st. If you're on a fixed deal then any new offer of a fixed deal is likely to be higher than 54% increase as another hike in prices for those on energy cap is due October. Apparently it's a bit of a gamble to accept a fixed deal now hence general advice has been to do nothing. |

I'm going to Google Martin Lewis's latest advice when the time comes. Things are going to be horrible for a lot of people.

I have been advised to not fix, as expectations are things will come down again... I only have electricity and am seriously considering borrowing the money I need for solar panels. |

Odd question We’re currently on a fix until oct but I’m thinking about how to save fuel then! We currently have a stove top kettle and the stove is gas. Should I change to an electric one? Is gas going up more than electricity? |

I think the real question is how much energy in KWh is used to heat each one. There’ll be a way to work that out somewhere online

I put mine on the gas (bottle) but also have an electric one. The electric one boils really quickly so I rather assume it is the cheaper way... But not at all scientific

I heard a R4 prog recently (possibly Moneybox) asking about which was the cheapest boil for a cup of whatever. IIrr The expert said probably cheaper to boil a pan of water on a gas burner, than boil a kettle as gas is still the cheaper fuel even though the price has increased so massively. The most important thing - obvs - is only to boil what you need.
