Mid Devon state they'll only pay if the direct debit/payments are in the same name as they'd sent the letter to. MrJB is the householder as decided by Mid Devon. He also gets all the bin collection info etc despite never paying them a penny: I pay all the DDs. Mildly annoying. |

Hanneke - for our MiL we just got Fibre 1 package (broadband & phone and something like 100 hours per month of free calls) for around £25-£30 I think. Sometimes calling is better than the web offers. |

BT also seems to want to bump me up hugely, saying I will get more for my money. As we have pitiful broadband here, I have no TV and no mobile signal, anyone had success in convincing/ forcing them in only supplying you with a landline and broadband and NOT making you pay for other things you don't/can't use, like I am now, as it is included in the "basic" package? Don't particularly want to pay for sports I cannot watch, 4G I cannot use and cloud storage I don't need and cannot access? Are they trying to move you from ADSL to a Fibre package, perhaps? I can’t see how they can make you take a TV and mobile package. If you only need landline and broadband, there absolutely should be provision for that. Consider also changing providers. Historically, I switched most years (through TopCashBack) to get better deals. Although I’ve been with the same outfit for a couple of years now, as they kept my subscription at the same price when it renewed. |

Fizz :-)
We’ve never had sport or TV on our BT account. They offer it occasionally but even if free we wouldn’t bother.

I have both TV and sport on my BT, I am a fan of rugby which they show a lot of, I also appreciate the tv box which lets me record lots of obscure films on in the middle of the night. I don’t have any streaming services so I guess it evens itself out.

Nme: no tv, no fibre, no mobile signal or radio signal here. A good thing in my view! No other providers here that cater for a non tv/fibre/mobile household of 1. I do think they are trying to get me on a "super everything" package but I am not having it. Current package does include stuff I never use too, apparently no way round that. I am going to have to force BT, like I forced EE, to provide a basic service at a basic cost. They do not like it mind... |

Thanks Um: decided to call them, they function on a BH. I now have a new, cheaper contract coming my way, minimum broadband and minimum landline. Just PAYG as I make about £2 a month worth of calls! This should save me £14/month going forwards!

bbc.co.uk Interesting read. I've been feeling rather stung by a price hike higher than appears necessary... |
