logged onto my gas/electricity yesterday: they want me to increase my DD even more (from the amount they suggested last month) - I suspect this is probably linked to the price increase expected in October so want customers to already be in credit.

I wonder what is actually going on at the energy companies at the moment. More arrears and bad debts?
More disconnections/switches to meters? Big reductions in energy usage? It's going to be a hard winter coming up.

I will be doing month end meter readings tomorrow and see where I am which is in credit and last month I increased my credit by £80 so am overpaying. When I run a quote I can see my DD is £15 higher than the quoted amount
Although I want to stay in credit I might look to reduce what I pay especially with the £400 to come - if I can trust the tories not to change that !

Jen - I would query that they want to increase your DD to far more than you think reasonable.
My supplier wanted a smaller increase in DD than I expected.
I had a smart meter installed this morning. 🙂

We submitted our meter readings last week. This week the website has suggested a DD of £255. 2 months ago when we started our new fixed rate it was £285. So that’s something.

I submitted a reading last week as I am moving to their flexible rate, with dread, but been advised better than fixing for 2 years at a high rate. I think Katie demonstrates things are already coming down a bit...

Just submitted end may readings. My may usage was less than April and I overpaid by £130 increasing my credit to over £400.
I seem to have an option to take £15 off my direct debit but will leave for a few days and ponder but feels like I can maybe knock £75 off what I pay.

End of June readings done today a day late as I forgot. Usage has dropped even further, aided by being away on holiday for eight days I guess.
Used virtually no gas and built up c£140 more credit and that’s despite me managing to get my direct debit down by about £30
Don’t fancy the look of the fixes being offered although I know another rise in price is coming, but why pay over the odds when I am using so little energy.

I had a quick look at the fixes on offer too but decided I just wasn't comfortable paying more than the flexible tariff I'm on now. I know there's an expected increase in October which at the moment is unknown but I'll risk it.
I did notice on some of the fixed tariffs very hefty fees for ending contract early.

I saw that too Shades. £200 exit fee plus the fix is 42% more than the current rate so that’s more money thrown away immediately.
I am looking at solar panels asap
