Dibble
I can hear all the influences in TLDP - Florence, Toyah, Sparks, Roxy Music. So as I like all those, I can't help but like them. Yes there are some great songs, but they are the ones that have previously been issued as singles. The new songs don't quite grab me quite as much yet.

Loving the Beths mug, Oranj :) One of my fave bands. Guess that was shipped all the way from NZ!
Last Dinner Party sound pretty good to me, I've liked the 4 or 5 tracks that were out in advance of the album, and agree with Dibble that the non-singles are not so immediate...but very happy to give them a few more listens.

Love TLDP. Some of the album tracks are definitely less immediate than, for example, Nothing Matters but it works as a whole and comes across as a remarkably self-assured debut. I saw them live in Leeds back in the summer when the hype was only just starting to build and was impressed then so looking forward to seeing how they grow from here...

Little Nemo
I gave TLDP a listen and after the first 2 songs it was a definite no. I carried on listening and by the end a couple of the songs caught my ear. I'll give it another listen to see if the songs I don't like sound better on a 2nd go.

I've heard that Beth Gibbons from Portishead is releasing some solo stuff - very excited about this! :-)

About This Thread

Maintained by McGoohan
As a spin-off from Joopsy's excellent Albums of 2022 thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/albums-of-2022-62537/ this is a new thread where we commit to listen to one new album a week in 2023. Allowing a couple of weeks off for life commitments etc, that's 50 albums in the year.
EDIT - new and improved (i.e. exactly the same) for 2024
