Fitz Good conditions and not too crowded given the record turnout of 2,950. Was hoping for a PB but just couldn't find the mojo for consistent 8-minute miles. Blister on toe!

KJSrunner Hot weather. No porridge before and no gels or beans dating race. Sports massage day before is probably the reason for not doing well!

Minks Bit disappointed that I didn't manage a PB for my first half in 7 years. Course was tough - lots of hills, nothing hideously steep but relentless (also lots of down sections but I found the constant changing from ascent to descent quite hard on my legs). Was also much warmer than expected given the weather for the rest of the week. It was hot lining up at the start and humid along some of the narrower country roads with high hedges either side keeping the heat in. Got boxed in for about the first mile which I ran much more slowly than intended, then probably overcooked it a bit trying to make up time in miles 2 and 3. Nasty long uphill section between 5 and 6, again about 8, and a real killer at about 10.5/11. The last mile was downhill which was nice! Splits were:

7.39 7.30 7.13 7.43 7.28 7.31 7.42 7.17 7.31 7.33 7.52 7.50 7.08 (6.39)

I died after mile 10 for the next two miles; seems this is where I lost most of my time, although really should be able to manage sub-7:30 for every mile. Really need to work on speed endurance, especially on uphills, and on overcoming the mental urge to stop when it all gets too tough (did stop at final drinks station as was exhausted and couldn't get enough water in on the move).
