The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free.
But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient.
Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead.
Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?
Early days for me, but it is working with a cadence / speed sensor and a dumb trainner (Elite Crono Fluid), so had a 30 minute spin last night whilst I'm still in free trial mode.
Surprised how much "further" I rode according to Zwift despite doing a virtual "lap" (i.e. so no net elevation change). 10.5m according to Zwift vs 9.3m recorded using the speed sensor via my watch. I suppose if Zwift have decent info about the actual resistance level of trainers like mine they can factor in if it is slightly harder than real life etc, though I'm must relying on their estimates and I guess my equipment limitation will restrict what I'm allowed to do on Zwift.
I did find that the motivation of trying to catch people etc was quite helpful, vs just staring at the mower in the garage or watching a film.
I record with a Garmin when using Zwift as well, but even with a smart trainer there is always a difference in mileage between what the trainer / garmin records and what Zwift records...
i suppose it makes sense that they've attempted to do some calibration, otherwise certain brands would get a reputation for being "easy" or "hard" in races etc, but the gap was bigger than I'd expected. Even for just 30 mins, I've never averaged 19mph before, but then again I suppose there's a notional "drafting" effect and my bike / personal aero are probably not good generally anyway. I'm not designed to be a good cyclist I don't think, but I do quite like the consistency that having a virtual app like that could give me so I'll persist for a little longer - at least until the free trial runs out!!
