Definitely fits with me too, as a TTer. The stats from the email make that clear in terms of my percentiles, but also, when I did an iTT it was by far my best result in Zwift. From a running point of view, I prefer the longer distances over the shorter stuff.

The training analysis software WKO provides a constantly updated type, based on the shape of power profile over the duration of interest, similar to what it seems Zwift is doing.

Something interesting is that the reported type can change dependent upon the training phase you're in. So typically it will tell me I'm a TTer, but during a period where I was focusing on shorter efforts, it suggested a Pursuiter. It raises the interesting question of how much of a profile is due to that being where you focus training, and how much is innate?

MM, intervals.icu is also very good and does similar to what you’re saying. It allows you to create ‘seasons’ if you train for different things at different times of the year, compares you to others in your age group etc. Lots and lots of data and graphs etc.

And re: focus on training - also influenced by where you live - so Cornwall lots of short punchy climbs with little flat, that I have no choice but to train on...

MM, suspect people have innate ranges in the various distances and profiles, but training will see how much of your innate ability you can unlock - with all the trade-offs of focusing on different types coming into play.

MM, I guess it's using your power curve over the past N days for some N, looking to see where you are relatively strongest. Intrinsic to this sort of analysis is the assumption you've done near-maximal efforts over the full range of durations that it considers. If you simply haven't done any longer efforts it will erroneously think you are poor at them.

So if that guess is right, it's not that the training is making you a pursuiter, it's just that it fools the analysis into thinking that you are.

JDA: Indeed, it can only base on available data, though I expect with a clever AI and enough training (in the machine learning sense) data, you may be able to avoid requiring maximal efforts at all ranges.

I'm more thinking though that's it's very difficult (maybe impossible) to separate out the effect of targeted training from any intrinsic capacity. So a power profile at a snapshot in time may just tell you the type of training you've focused on recently. Which I guess highlights the importance for young racers of doing a wide range of disciplines and not assuming too much about their strengths too early.

Finished my rush through Zwift Academy this morning, a decent improvement between baseline and finish line ride but still a long way down on last year when I had been zwifting consistently through the summer (and even winter before). Still, at least I'm probably fit enough to start training :-)

May give up zwift for the winter, depending how the running goes. It's not great value for one or perhaps two rides a week.
