Wow I didnt realise kennels were so expensive. We had our neighbours dog for the day before Xmas as they were at a wedding and we have him overnight on Saturday as their kennel is fully booked (or could be we're a cheaper alternative) Dont mind having him he is no bother and gets on well with Ellie.

My son's a dog walker and he charges £50 a day to dog sit - if I recall correctly that includes staying overnight and a one hour walk during the day

We paid just over £20 per day over Christmas for a place in Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex. Would recommend so message me if anyone wants details.

£40 with our local couple actually sounds quite reasonable. They are runners and take dogs out for good exercise AND dogs basically stay in their houme, with their own dogs. I can't imagine a vizsla at a kennels

Think ours is £60 per 24 hours for home boarding. Plus it’s really hard to book because obviously she can only have one or two at a time. (I haven’t been on holiday since 2020…wonder why…)

We have just booked Wanda into a kennels for the day because we have to be somewhere else and it would mean leaving her for too long otherwise - she won't be staying overnight but obviously we are paying the one day/night rate because it costs the same to prepare a kennel for a 4 hour stay as for a 24 hour stay. Just under £36. Never seen the place or had any recommendations for it but it is close to where we will be for the day and we wouldn't get back to our local kennels before the cut off time for collecting her and then she would have to overnight which ideally we don't want.

This could just as easily be on the 'Smile' thread... When Flossie was a young dog one of her favourite indoor toys was Oinky, a pig where you pulled his elastic tail and let go, sending him flying out of the living room into the hall. Ideal from the human point of view, we could sit on the sofa, she would retrieve him and we'd send him flying again. She used to do a little dance of anticipation, she was so excited by Oinky. Obviously time took its toll and Oinky went in the bin years ago. Yesterday, while completing the decluttering of a spare bedroom, I found what we are now calling 'Clucky', a chicken equivalent of Oinky. Brand new, put away unused, forgotten.
It has made the years drop away as far as Flossie's concerned. She is just as excited as she ever was to go and retrieve Clucky. There's still a young dog in there somewhere
