Quick update on Scot Blood donating at the mo. Website says
* def still need blood at this time
* more spacing, fewer slots, might take longer, subject to change etc.
* don't come with family or friend, just the donor
* don't come if you've had symptoms or anyone in household - isolate for 14 days
I phoned to book and got through in a just a min or two (though they website says phone lines may be busier). At the centre I go to (Edinburgh city) next appointment was 3 weeks away. Which is good that they are booked, but may also be due to reduced beds and staff off or re-prioritised? (I didn't waste the person's time asking).
So I think the message is still donate, but a few extra checks. Keep on giving everyone!  G

Actually, very healthy stock levels. Don't think I've ever seen better.
Probably combination of reduced A&E admissions, reduced elective ops, fewer people on the roads, and Covid19 doesn't need blood (or does it?) Good news anyway. G

I think HG's guess is believable. Stocks are high because of reduce demand. Partly good (less A&E admissions!) partly bad (less other medicine happening).

Donated today - first time I’ve been able to in 16 months, after being diagnosed with an under active thyroid and having to wait until they’d got my thyroxine dosage right.
One of the chaps from my running club works for the Welsh Blood Service, and he was doing the tea and biscuits afterwards, so we had a brief chat. He did say they’ve been really busy.

Just had nhs blood donation people on the phone to ask if I am able to give blood as they are desperate for donations. Of course I said. Went through life and the universe to get first appt as 3rd August! I’m now taking time off work as the only spot is at 3.25!
