I gave donation 45 last Wed. It took 4 mins 32 seconds (is there a prize?), which meant I spent longer having the cup of tea after.

It’s just occurred to me that, with my ultra cancelled, there’s no need for me to wait until May to donate. I’m assuming donation sessions are going on as normal as they are still going to need blood.

Scrub that, I told hubby and he is seriously worried about me going to a donation session - he’s had pneumonia in the past and is paranoid he’ll get it again if he’s infected. I’d rather go and donate, but I don’t want to upset him by doing so.

I gave platelets on Saturday, the donor waiting area had half the number of chairs in it and they were spaced well apart. I arrived about 20 minutes before my scheduled appointment so the waiting room was empty in any case. Have my next donation in 4 weeks time and hopefully things will still be okay for donating then. |

Just a thought for those of us in running clubs. I posted this on our club fb page and website today: “Whilst some of us have extra time on our hands and no races to fit donations around, now would be a good time to consider giving blood if you are able to.” Despite several unhelpful “I can’t because....” responses there have also been several “I’ve never got round to it before, thanks for the nudge“ replies, so hopefully some new recruits will be forthcoming. |

I've just posted that in my club as well (they will be sick of me posting about donating blood after my marathon campaign). But for the last few months I have been told that they will after their marathon/half/target race so no excuses now.

Just to be clear, are blood donation centres still open and is the demand/supply ratio any worse than normal during corona virus? Thanks. G
