I’ve taken the feature down for now. Despite being put together with the best intentions, it didn’t feel right. And a few thoughtful people have shared some kindly-worded concerns.

Vixx - thank you for sharing all that you have done. It must have taken a lot of guts to put your thoughts and feelings out there. I hope your decision to step back is a temporary one.

All in all, feeling a bit sad about this tonight. I am sad that people can’t be free to be themselves in peace. And at every kind of way we group other people, so that we can attach characteristics to them en masse. It’s not right. Be lovely to each other. Sleep well.

I too am going to step back I'm afraid.

I feel that I don't know enough or participate in races anymore to know enough about sport rules or regulations to be able to give firm advice on issues. I only have thoughts from personal experiences or from a transwoman's life perspective.

I can see both sides of the problems faced though so I sympathise with anyone trying to understand or resolve it.

I'll still be lurking and keeping an eye on the thread and happy to answer any reasonable questions.

If you ignore the crap, the article linked to on the bottom of this page letsrun.com is really interesting. Apologies if someone has already shared it.

Letsrun have had some well reasoned "front page" pieces on transgender runners. The forums are beyond the pale - you'll get about as much intelligent discussion about running on mumsnet as on the letsrun message boards, and I'm saying that as someone who would ban everyone who has ever posted on mumsnet from owning a keyboard.

One problem with Letsrun forums is that school and college kids who seem to be more right-wing than UKIP members can post there unregistered. If you can develop a troll filter and a sense for when a thread is going to be worthless there is some interesting content.
For balance when I was just stating using Fetcheveryone in 2007, I heard more than once from other runners what their impressions were of the level of debate in these forums. I would say that this negative impression was mostly generated by a handful of people.

Interesting narrative in the article of transwomen in sport being a (further) oppression of women by men. Interesting because, much like the word “mansplaining”, it’s a way of justifying ignoring any male’s opinion... which becomes worse when a person defines a transwoman as a male. That way it becomes logically justifiable to completely ignore transwomen’s thoughts, feelings, and views when discussing the issue of transwomen in sport.
