I finally decided to lay down my benchmark today, as in:

a) Set the start & finish points.
b) Can I run the distance without a walking break yet?

I managed it, so I'll take it for April and know what I have to work on now.

Nice running AR!

This is such a good idea - thank you, FF, for setting it up. I'm looking forward to working on my mile time throughout the year :-)

well done, alpenrose!

I ran another mile on the track last night, first fast mile since the end of February. I wasn't going quite as hard as it's 5 days from the marathon so I kept it at 85% effort. I was happy that I kept it within one second of my January mile but it felt easier.

Thanks for setting up the year-long challenge, FF, I've never race the mile distance before.

I set it up to hopefully help my own mile time but then I thought why do it alone. It's great to be able to help others and as always Fetchies are awesome at encouragement, motivation and kicking butt when needed.
I hope everyone who has joined the thread is helped however they need it.

I have listened to my own advice and ran my April virtual mile with some discomfort. Thanks to that I managed a 6.29 an improvement of 10 seconds on my February time.

Just a few days left to get those miles done folks and well done to those that have completed their miles already.

Well done, FF. 👏👏

I did my April mile yesterday, and got a little improvement in my time. 8:52 so about 11 seconds quicker than in March. Will probably try and get my May mile in early so my holiday doesn't get in the way. Might even do it on the first of the month!

About This Thread

Maintained by Fenland Flier
For encouragement and general chat about the virtual mile challenges.

It's not easy pacing a mile race whether it's virtual or real, be it on track, road, grass or trail. Go out too hard initially and struggle towards the end, go out too soft and regret your finish time.

Use this thread to record your jubilation or allow us to commiserate with you.
