Sorry to hear that Chris. My understanding is similar to WW TBH. The best player on the NBA team I support has the issue. There's two type of ops, ideally you repair, which has longer recovery but the best outcomes. If repair isn't possible, they can cut the piece causing symptoms out but the more you cut out rather than repair the more issues with the knee are likely in the future.

This is the article with an orthopedic surgeon about options at the time which might be useful. Seems you're going for rest and hopefully things settle down route. Hope it works.

Yeah he said it's too early to involve an orthopedic surgeon. If it was the shifting furniture that caused it to flair (I raced on the same day, but with no issue during or immediately after the race), then he thinks I probably will be able to go back to similar to what I was doing before (ie running 3-4 times a week). Thanks for the link, definitely informative.

The article fits with what you said TBH (Old injury possibly flaring up again and tears not healing). It does seem going the rehab route and strengthening should be tried first. Embiid seems to have had his issues flare up again this season after going for the partial removal surgery last year to make the playoffs (and the Olympics) rather than rest and rehab route.

Yeah sorry to read that @Chrisull, hopefully you can get a solution or operation that allows you to run more!

Oh that sucks @Chrisull. For what it's worth, I've had meniscus tares and successful repair, tidy up operations on both. As well as a lateral release on the left one. My surgeon told me to stop running back in 2010. But with lots of rest post op and a lot of strength training, it came right. I do still get the odd flare up but it's very rare nowadays and I'm running lots these days.

Really hope you are able to get back to where you'd ideally like to be.

@auburnette's blog is a great one to read for anyone wishing to go quicker over the marathon distance. I love the discussion on weight and nutrition. I used to focus on weight a lot but probably never got my race day nutrition this right.

Thanks everyone, I should be back at least running in some form in 10 days now. This time is weird, it hurts more if I walk, but if I break into a small jog there's no pain (the problem is at the back of the knee and if I fully straighten that's when it hurts), because I don't tend to fully extend - except when going up hill of course.

Also - our old club member and local boy, just ran 2.13.02 at Valencia (chip time 2.12.59). He broke his old pb by 2 minutes. Crikey I remember chasing him down the woodland paths near here, I couldn't keep up, but I was the only one in the club who was descending anywhere near!

"Old club member" ! I had a quick look through the results expecting to see a v55 doing 2:13!!

A from my town ran 2:15 (gun), 2:14:57 (chip) at Valencia. Feels like there's good reason to think the time of year, course and climate are just about as fast as they come in the world at that course.
