I ran it in 2022. Top tip (as per my blog) - make sure you know what a finish line looks like 🤦🏼‍♂️

Lol, some great blogs and nostalgic reads! I want to do Yorkshire marathon now. Maybe if I get fit again next year I'll make that my target too! (for a plod 3.30, not a sub 3.15 elite athlete time!) :-) G

Plenty of time @HappyG(rrr) at the moment I am still resting my Achilles injury. Second week in June to start P+D 18 week plan (plus a extra week for a down week for Cleethorpes half marathon)

Back on the injury bench here, after knee has flared up again. New physio (as old one has gone part time, doubled his fees and is 40 miles away), who scanned it and found quite possibly a meniscal tear (he thinks an old one, and probably what did for me in the first place). Looks like it was caused by joint narrowing and arthritic bone spurs.

I can and did run yesterday, but he reckons because of the state of the swelling to not run for 2 weeks and get the swelling right down. Says meniscal tear is unlikely to ever properly heal due to its location towards back of knee where there's not much bloodflow. Says running will become more of a "luxury", as he has had the self same injury. Reckons I'm probably good to continue at 3 times a week for short distances in the future and to do even more strength work and more cycling, but long term it will probably end up requiring a knee replacement. Says unusually also to stick to the roads, avoid offroad!

Sorry to hear that @Chrisull hopefully you will still be able to manage 3 times a week.

ugh, that does sound a difficult diagnosis Chris, hope you can continue to do bits without incurring too much damage / pain. I can see why the fizz would say to avoid the uneven nature of off-road running but I do wonder whether there might be a fix out there for you?

My wife has torn the meniscus on both knees (netball, stupid game) and had successful repair operations on each. She won't play netball any longer but has enough stability in the knee to walk in the mountains and jog without issue. Something to look in to perhaps?

I'm hopeful - especially as I was managing that before this weekend, and it was pushing heavy furniture with my legs that probably did it.

WW - yes the fizz did says arthroscopy has fixed such problems for one runner he knew, but for a football ref completely ruined them further so it's a lottery. He said he'd chosen not to gamble on one (also I have a relative who's a doctor who said don't do it).

Fizz said at the moment, it's just about getting the swelling down and then looking at rehabiliation after that.
