Expert feels a little strong but all learnt from others WW. The IG post is from the guy I see for my injury issues and he's good at explaining the why.

I used to also only do the eccentrics but had an achilles issue a few years back that didn't respond to the eccentrics. Eccentrics on a step are actually contraindicated for achilles insertion tendinopathy. That got me looking at the emerging research on isometrics and these days generally if I have an injury I try and find an isometric exercise for initial strengthening before progressing to eccentrics where necessary/ if desired.

Love the photo WW! I'll never forget seeing the start of the track at Abingdon and just knowing I had to get round and under that clock before it struck 3!! Such happy memories from a different life!!

Hope the final big weeks before Manchester go smoothly for all those racing!

Bazo - We will hopefully be on Menstrie Brae next weekend at Alloa with our little cheerleaders (I say "we" though Stuart's planning on coming across the Ochils on the way and will be dependent on how compliant the 2 yr old is). ..... what's your race strategy now that it finishes at the high school? Your going to have to have a final push from the top of the hill to the finish now? Take it you'll hit the brae later in race now and have that second wee climb to the high school??

Yeah I remember searching for that track worrying it was slipping away. As soon as I set foot and heard WW i knew I had done it. Just a celebration lap to go.

I didn’t realise alloa had changed their route. To be honest it’s immaterial. I will be lucky to break 90 minutes and will be happy just with a decent run under my belt.

Will be great to see you and family. Might even stop to say hello.

Note to self: Brace for a cowbell in the ear whilst plodding up the hill.

Also - three posts in a row showing profile pictures taken on the Abingdon track :-)

Just read about the new arrangements and not sure I like the sound of things. No parking at the start/finish and shuttle buses from alloa.

Nice pic WW, looks a bit like you're wearing the atchet ASHERS club top, the best group of running smokers in the Windsor area 😉

Final long long run before Manchester all went to plan as far as what was in my control. My 22 miles finished with a 1:38 half marathon at Draycote Water which felt comfortable at what I'd class as marathon effort/ heart rate until the last mile or so when I picked it up a bit to secure 3rd lady and also into a headwind.

I say 'in my control' as it wasn't exactly as I'd wanted. I timed my 8 pre-miles to finish at the start line at 9:30am so it would be as good as seemless. However the race (dis)organiser decided to hold a race briefing (no idea what about - it's a very straightforward route around the reservoir!) a mile away near the finish area, starting at 9:30?! This wasn't published in advance and hasn't been done at their races there before. I'm sure a quick briefing on the startline itself at 9:30 would have been more than adequate! So I jogged a 9th mile, then walked around as much as I could to keep warm and flexible before it eventually started at 9:54! I was not impressed.

But overall a pleasing run and I'm beginning to wonder if a marathon '2nd best' is becoming a possibility in Manchester - my Chester time from 2015 of 3:21:something feels in my sights if all aligns on the day...

That's a bizarre race start tale!

Cracking run clare, sounds like you're in a similar place to me with clear evidence that the training has gone better than expected and feeling like there's no good reason not to nudge up your expectations. Definitely that 2nd best is on the cards, if not more...
