I checked my three Chester’s and that late hill seemed to be about 10-15 seconds slower than the miles either side in my first two.

Hard to tell in my third as my garmin had lost satellites at mile 11 and I was manual lapping and got a bit confused by mile markers towards the end.

I have great memories of all three times I ran Chester and it is my favourite race I reckon.

I'm really interested to see how Manchester fares in comparison with Chester. I do like the size and scope of the Chester race (and it helps that it feels very local) with it's mix of rural roads, attractive city centre and great start facilities.

I drove down the A56 in Manchester a few days ago and it's pretty grim in comparison. But as I don't know the area so well there'll be plenty to distract me.

WW - great photo... if you had *that* much energy left at the end, you should have gone faster ;-) Put me in mind of Stuart Pearce, vs Spain, Euro 96...

12 weeks out from Brisbane and I have pulled the plug on planned long run for tomorrow and booked a physio appt for Tuesday. I may have increased my mileage too quickly and have a sore Achilles tendon. Not very painful but also clearly not right. Will wait on advice from the physio but I have no interest in just getting round a marathon so if it isn't a 3 15 attempt I am out.

That is tough but sound like the right call. Hope you get it under control.

I was suffering from gardening induced DOMS in my glutes today and my parkrun time was sadly impacted.

Eccentric heel drops may be the answer njo. I've often had Achilles discomfort which I've responded to with those drops and it feels like they resolve it. But a physio will give better advice (obviously!!).

Ended up doing 21 today with 18 on the way to parkrun. Felt a bit rough around 14 miles but pace picked up from about 8:10 down to about 7:45 for the last 3miles of the 18, and then got round parkrun at just under 7:00. Good to have got that done.

Isometric holds can be better for getting load through and less chance of irritation in early stages. Also shown to be good for pain reduction. They're good ones to use when things just start grumbling but isn't a full blown injury.

See first video here. Essentially pushing against the door frame as you hold the raise, increases to load through the calf achilles.

I'd use both eccentric and isometric for a lingering injury or for a dedicated strengthening period but isometric initially is good route in and can condition a little against some of the soreness you might get initially by jumping straight in sets of 3 c 15-20 of eccentrics.

it was pure adrenaline Oscar. Still makes my skin tingle when I think about it.

I know SPR is a bit of an expert on Achilles issues. Good advice there I’m sure. Only ever do eccentrics myself, always fixes any issue I have.

Cracking LR / parkrun combo there lark. I’ve said it before but you’ve got yourself in good shape 👍🏻.

Good parkrun for me this morning. 18:30 on a trail course with a decent mud coating. Last HM of my spring trio next weekend. Hoping to get back down close to 82. Then it looks like I’ve got to be oldest / slowest at the 12 stage the week after. Why can’t these youngsters just run faster?!
