Hmmmm. London allowing "virtual" times to count for GFA. I'll get my bike out and give it a crack I know many have found virtual events enjoyable through this Covid situation but allowing them to count for GFA seems a stretch too far in my humble opinion.

Especially when times count for up to 2 years anyway.

They only count if you already had a GFA but it falls out with the required time period so it’s not a free for all.
From the 6k GFA qualifiers they will know exactly how many people fall into that category and feel it’s an acceptable risk.

Big G, your bike data won’t have the right cadence data, you need to get a fast mate to run it for you! I agree it’s open to abuse.

I’m too lazy to work it out Baz. Will we get in to Oct 21 with our Abingdon times from Oct 19?
I think when we 1st applied for the 2020 race it would have been with late 2018 / early 2019 times, wouldn’t it? I assume those now expire?
Perhaps I should just wait for the email?!

I'm sure we can manipulate the Garmin/Strava data fairly easily? I haven't tried it for a few years, but I remember about 5 years ago someone created a strava activity for London Marathon with a time of 1:59:59 He hadn't ran or cycled the course, just manipulated the data, although I think strava have tightened up a bit on it now.

WW. You would have applied for this year using last years VLM as Abingdon was after the entry date. Last years VLM is fine so don’t think we need to worry about October 21. Abo 19 I think should be usable for April 22 if we are still motivated at that stage.

Usually pretty easy to spot fake traces on strava if anyone bothers to check. Though getting a fast friend to run it for you is going to be foolproof. Of course, you need a fast friend who's prepared to do that. Maybe easier to just steal someone else's trace off Strava. Oops maybe I shouldn't have given you all that idea

Would be pretty easy to get an old gpx file of a valid marathon gfa and do a "find and replace" for 4th Oct 2020 in the date field if maintaining your gfa place in the face of injury or lack of fitness was important to you.
