Running with the dog and/ or VFs will make you faster for the same effort that would 'game' any VO2 MAX measurement. I don't think that relevant TBH Physio Tune Up is available in some newer watches to sync data across devices. The VO2 max measurement is supposed to account for dodgy data and hills even in older devices. The newer (FRx45 and Fenix 6 I believe) devices account for heat. Not sure where the Vivoactive falls in the features front. Not saying it's always accurate though, but not sure much else they can do on the VO2 Max front. In fact they probably need to start looking at other fitness measures. |

I'm not sure it's irrelevant, if I run with my dog once a week, then am I simply meant to turn HR off? I suppose the answer is yes :), but it had my peak of fitness in Feb witth 55 VO2 max when I knew I was way off the pace, and had me down to 51 (now back up to 52) when I can see my fitness has improved over the last month. These are just the factors I've brainstormed that affect this.

Yeah the answer is yes, because if you somehow were able to turn up to a lab to ask them to measure your VO2 max while you ran with a dog, they too would over estimate it (hence the controlled conditions in a lab). Even without the VO2 max issue, the HR data wouldn't be that relevant to your fitness if the dog is helping. Heat is definitely an issue with older devices, and I'm not sure how good Garmin are at controlling for the stuff they try and control for TBF. I've definitely had heat and longer run issues with the 235 which in theory the 245 fixes. It also needs the a steady diet of faster runs it seems and doesn't like easy. |

Re the altimeter on VA3 showing your running below sea level, did you see my 20 point diagnostic that Garmin support made me do? Number 15 shows the altimeter. If the "current pressure" is fluctuating wildly when it's sitting on your desk testing, then it's goosed. Fmail me for further info. G

Also the route will consist of laps of roughly 1.5 miles, taking in The Mall, Horse Guards Parade, Birdcage Walk and the spur road running adjacent to front of Buckingham Palace.

My dog has been known to turn back on himself for an interesting scent while I'm mid air, thus resulting in unavoidable collisions. He does chase well if running with other dog runners or chasing someone on a bike (with their permission, I don't just chase random strangers on a bike, although sounds like it could be fun!)
