WW - As you know I am a golfer (very very average one, probably 3:45 marathon on ptbs calculation :) )

Mine is also £1500 per year (Knebworth) Do I get my moneys worth (probably not) play once a week on average, but do get the odd 9 holes in on a lovely summers evening and the course is a 2 min drive away (my house is actually 400 yards as the crows flies from the 3rd fairway) my eldest lad (16yo) plays (far better than me now!!) and he only costs £150 and plays a fair bit more (especially in the holidays) so combined I probably get my moneys worth!

I really enjoy all the weekly competitions through the summer, BBQs (in normal times)

Our 'group' has grown over the years, it was just me and one mate when I joined 11 years ago. We now have 10 of us that all played football together and as they have got older and given up over the years are now members.

Also, the clubhouse and sitting on the terrace overlooking the 1st, 9th, 10th and 18th is also lovely in the summer for a diet coke :)

It tough that I have little spare time as run, work and just generally very busy! Would like to play a bit more.

If you ever near me and fancy a game let me know.

See Bazo the zoo's a bargain by comparison, I bet the animals you'll meet are better behaved and less smelly too (well, the ones the other side of the fences) :-)

I ran around the zoo car park this morning as it nabbed two squares that are otherwise tough to get to and doubled as a bit of hill work.

SPR, I had a good read of the 25 page HADD document that I think Puzzler compiled from the Letsrun thread and also a few other bits and pieces.

Tomorrow was due to be a 10 mile sub LT, but I will trial the warm up and 10 x 100/100 strides before that session. I think that will probably give me a 12-13 mile run instead, but I will chop some miles off Saturday to compensate and make Saturday a tru recovery run.

Also taking PtBs thoughts on board I will not go all out and might only do 6 or 8 of the strides and build up.

I am not doing Hadd at the moment as I have moved on to a marathon plan. But I introduced a session (borrowed from Bekele) of 20x1 min fast 1 min easy followed by 20x30secs fast 30 secs easy. Fairly similar to the Hadd 200/200 but without the need for a track.

Last couple of sessions have been off the pace for where I was. May be the heat or upping the mileage a bit but I feel I’ve lost something relative to where I was in May/June.

1/1 fartlek is a great session. I don't usually want to do more after though, lol.

I do time based interval sessions on road as well on a fairly flat circa 1.5 mile loop. Got a few 20-45 sec efforts with 40 to 75 sec jog recovery sessions set up on Garmin Connect. Not done one for awhile though.

Late to the Garmin VO2 Max debate, but I'd suggest it's similar to the Garmin Vivoactive's measuring of altitude (occasionally OK, but occasionally so remiss as to locate me sub 1500ft below sea level).

It is easily gamed

1) by running with the dog
2) by running in VFs

(both worth a point it seems!)

3) if you race/ with a different watch (so eg my 5kms and 2 1 miles time trials), then it can't include valid data. This might seem like a silly point, but if it decides to go mad on a particular run or lose the GPS signal (as it has done), then this influences the data unduly.

4) It takes no account of heat/hills/humidity(and in Cornwall all 3 have been a big factor)

So as I've seen my mile times improve so 20.14 5k which was trained for over 3 weeks, then mile times of 6.04 and then 5.54, my VO2 max has got worse by 2 points. I can tell you myself from simple observation I'm fitter than a month ago (greater mileage, more long runs, some speed work). So I'd say it's not very good.
