The community/carnival atmosphere is the thing I love the most about London, never seen anywhere do it better (though i've not done any of the big USA races). Feels like a day when people can put their grumpiness aside and everyone seems happy even when the weather is bad. Oggy oggy oggy :)

My mate got a charity place when his wife got through the ballot. They’ve no real history of running. She’s done London before and iirc took six hours at least.

They took nearly three & a half hours for a half earlier today, are they likely to be isolated at the back?

BK brighter days ahead
The London Marathon Group give cash donations as well as places to local parkruns that provide volunteers - for the marathon, Ride London.

Unlikely, Ally-C. There are official tail runners at 8 hours, and when I passed them on the opposite side of the road last year there was a fair number of participants in that part of the field although the numbers had thinned out quite a lot. After what happened a couple of years ago, London is very keen to reinforce its credentials with regard to supporting runners/walkers at the back. I'm sure they won't lack company.

More importantly, all the drinks stations and Portaloos and the finish area should still be in place for runners coming through in 8 hours or less. For participants taking longer the roads will reopen and the finish line will move off the road but some of the tail runners will stay with the back markers.

That's not running. Even a brisk walk is faster.

TCS London marathon has taken this inclusivity thing way too far. If it takes a person 8 hours to finish TCSLM they are not fit enough to participate. It is a running event isn't it ?

There's lots of hiking and walking events in the UK for 8 hour walkers.

I finished in just over 7 hours last year, there were loads of runners/walkers/people around me the whole way, crowds still out the whole way, and no issues at all with water stations etc.
