Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

London champs tightening qualifier and moving to a quota system. Not entirely unexpected re the qualifying times given people are getting faster but disappointing that they are applying a quota, as net effect is to reduce number of places available to champs and GFA runners (If champs is oversubscribed which it appears likely to be, some champs runners will be bumped to GFA which in turn may bump out people who had only just qualified through GFA).

A similar thing is happening with guaranteed entries for clubs. They raised the bar last year, and I'm waiting to see whether the following page will update properly at some point in the next couple of months:

The London Marathon raised a record £ 73.5m ($98.28m) for charity, race organisers said on Wednesday in what they described as the world’s largest annual one-day fundraising event.

Yeah, it's not a runners race realistically, it's an elite race and a charity event these days. Champs / GFA hurts their fundraising.

I wanna love London (on the day, it's the greatest race in the world because of the incredible spectator support) but London Marathon Events makes it hard sometimes 🥲

Been saying for years it’s not a race for runners.

I loved every one of my 11 London marathons, all of them on a GFA place. It does sound like they are taking away that element which is sad.

my days of running marathons are over, but it will be a shame if it is made harder for people to get a place.

I hate the quota thing - and the long wait before you know if you're "in". I know it's for 2026...but ....sigh. Will enjoy my 2025 spot to the max
