That's rough, Dipps. I can imagine LittleD saying something similar. My nephews impersonate middle-aged women on FB in order to laugh at other middle-aged women and do not see why I find that offfensive.

She will doubtless punish me for my absence of humour by folding in on herself and being unable to cope. Id like to beat her lightly round the head but will try and settle for reminding her i dont love her for being a shithead, there really is enough in the world already and the only choice isnt to become one

I think that's one for the memory banks, and next time she complains about not being treated well by someone remind her that this is how she made someone else feel by also being mean. How can she expect any different when she displays the same behaviour etc ? Life lessons can be harsh sometimes......... |

I wonder whether she was testing a bit to see how you would react. Much younger kids do a lot of that social referencing. That might well be how her peers act and itโs easy to get swept up with that. It wonโt do her any harm to see someone disapproving of that kind of behaviour.

She was i think genuinely trying to make me laugh. A lot of comedy is built around inappropriate responses but theres a depressing undercurrent about only joining in on how everyone else behaves and them deserving it which is peddled out by trolls and bullies everywhere so at the least she should pick her audience better

OH is publishing his third book on humour and cruelty. I won't ask him to weigh in, though, as he would take over the thread...

I'm a dad to 13 yr old, and it's been a long time since I was a teenager. It's so hard for them now and yet they seem to have everything I ever wanted. I've watched my boy change from a child to a young man in 6 months. As a parent your asked, and are supposed to know, all the correct choices and answers to every situation. The boy hasn't turned feral, yet. |

Welcome, Steve. Lot's of great experience around here. Not from me, though. I'm a bit rubbish. Ask DS14 and DS17. |
