Calves still tight and sore, I haven't been tempted into a jog yet - going down stairs is hard enough!

I blogged at tedious length. Well, it's a long race!

Fordyboy - I have done Dublin twice. It is a well organised big city marathon, with plenty of runners to run with at 3hr pace (and pacers). It is not flat, but certainly not hilly, and being late in october the weather can be a bit unpredictable (definatley not too warm!). The course means it is quite well suited to a negative split strategy with a long slow drag up the phoenix park in the first half. There is also a bit of a sharp hill on mile 21(ish).
I too have family over there so it works well for me. My marathon PB was there. Hope that helps.

Just read the blog jda. Would you consider visiting a physio with a MSc in Biomechanics and seeing if they can identify the weakness and offer ideas to correct it?

Really enjoyed the blog JDA, it amazes me the accuracy with which you can predict your times!

Personally I haven't much of a clue what I'll run at London yet... I'll do a bit of analysis of my HR levels from my threshold runs sometime next week to see if I can predict where I am, but my main plan is to run with the HR/Cadence screen on the watch to 20 miles, and whatever pace I'm averaging to that point will be what I try to hold over the last 10k.

Pleased to report I think I'm over my cough flu, HR beats per mile during runs are back to pre-illness levels since Monday, so all good here :-)

Thanks Ralph. Dublin was my first marathon back in 2011 and I really enjoyed it. It does of course have the added draw of an evening of Irish hospitality following the race :)
At the moment it looks like my options are Chester, Hull and Dublin.

Great blog JDA

Brunski - pleased to hear you've managed to shift the lurgy.

Annoyingly LMH it feels fine at the moment (having said that it has always been OK unless I'm running so I guess that will be the real test). I've continued to do plenty of stretching and I'm tempted to attempt a very gentle 3 miles with the dog after work but I'll play it by ear.

Echoing the above - great blog jda. Some of it really resonated - particularly your thinking around pacing, worries about sleep, dodgy-GPS splits and the difficulty of knowing when or if to ease off towards the end.

Only a few more runs of significance planned for me. One today with some MP miles, parkrun(+ to and from on Sat) and an easy 10-12miler on Sunday.

Finally decided on the shoes I'll wear - a newish pair of what I've been doing most of my training in (Saucony Ride). They're a tad heavier than what I expect most people race in, but I appreciate cushioning especially in the later stages. I had a look back at my notes from some previous marathons and ones where I'd run in more like a race shoe I'd had knee pain towards the end, whereas when I'd run in standard training shoes all had been comfortable.

Hi all

Hope all is going well with the taper!👍🏻

Just wondering on race day (for marathons), do you wear a running belt to store your gels and if not, where do you store them/or do you not carry any and get them along the route?

Thanks in advance! 😎
