I'm thinking of Hull Fordy.
I much prefer training in the warm and racing on a cooler day jda and building from a good marathon base really helps come the autumn race.

JDA, there is an argument that says training in the heat makes for a better race when its cooler. However, why change what is clearly working.
For us in Scotland I find the Spring marathon tough as we train all winter in poor conditions but race in much warmer conditions than we have trained in. That said, AUtumn marathons I find harder to prepare for as I have a summer holiday to factor in

JDA mentioned York as a possible. I've run this the last 3 years and here are my observations:
- It's described as a PB course (by the organisers), however I'd suggest this is a bit lumpy for most people's liking.
- There are long periods of quite exposed areas where it can be affected by the wind, and it can be hard to find anyone running at your pace. - There are 4 main hills, from memory these come at miles 8 - quite a short but reasonably steep climb, 14 (long drag up - this is where I pushed too hard last year to hold pace, HR never recovered), 18 - another long drag up, and then a really nasty steep hill just before the end (finish is downhill and great for sprinting to a sub-3 ).
Obviously what goes up comes back down, so you get your fair share of long downhills to recover and make up time on.

Bazo, I humbly submit that your spring problem is due to usually choosing London or Edinburgh over Manchester which is likely to be significantly cooler than either. I’ve now had three consecutive years of near-perfect conditions though of course there is never a guarantee.
I also came unstuck doing Vienna in April back in 2015 - it is over 20c here now (I’m visiting again) and the marathon is later in the month.

I reckon JDA now holds the WR for grey socks. Grey socks?!
Agree completely on the London being too hot issue, it was on my mind when I originally chose GMM as my target mara this year.

So if I enter Manchester we get a less severe winter in Scotland....sounds great !
ha ha, I know what you mean though. I doubt if I will ever do Edinburgh again and as I will this year complete my 10th consecutive VLM my OCD may allow me to consider another one now that has been completed.

Talking of severe winters we were confined to the bedroom for several days earlier this year with the lounge not getting above 9C.
Grey socks are a particular model of liner which I’m reluctant to diverge from. Not broken so don’t fix it!

Congrats jda! Commiserations fordyboy.
And fingers crossed for improvements for the spate of woes affecting thread participants.
I'm back into my normal routine after 2 weeks of a complete mish-mash of training. Hopefully, not to much harm done, although I worry about last week's frequent holiday drinking following a surely positive dry lent.

Great result JDA! Part of me now wishes I'd done Manchester as all the fast guys from my club invaded those southern parts en masse.
Better luck next time Fordyboy.
I now have an annoying chesty cough which at least has 12 days to sort itself out. Think I'll take a couple of days off now to give it a chance, though other than a parkrun blast I've just racked up easy miles since my Easter epic.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have done York in the past and to be honest I'm not massively keen to do it again. I do have other options though I guess. Dublin is another option. I have family over there so that's a bonus.
