I definitely drop the hip of the raised leg and have to correct this on both sides

I've come to the conclusion that shifting your gaze is more useful than increasing the eyes shut time. And easier to practice anywhere!

once in a gym i saw a woman in her 20s place a dumbbell on its end, stand on it with one foot (well, just her toes, really), put her other leg out pretty much 90 degrees, then slowly crouch all the way down and up again. She did that on each leg a number of times. I could never do that in a million years.

That would be a 'Pistol Squat'. Impressive to do it on a dumbbell!

I can't do those, although I'd doing a lot of one-legged work at the moment to rehab a wonky knee. Got one of these balance cushion things: decathlon.co.uk although I'm not doing much with just one leg standing on it just yet.

One on my socks 'went to sleep' in my wellies this morning walking the dog. No problem sorting while standing on one leg :-)

I can stand on one leg for a minute but can't put my socks on!

I have seen some people put socks and shoes on whilst on one leg! :-o

I also found today that swapping from 1 leg to another quickly i.e. after 20s and then back again actually makes it harder

I've never heard about socks going to sleep. I'll steal that!

Mum taught me about socks going to sleep in my wellies when I was a kid.

I have read[citation needed] that the test of whether you can put your socks on by standing on one leg is something that the majority of people fail in their late 50s. Balance is important.

About This Thread

Maintained by Derby Tup
Sharkie's current blog has piqued my interest in standing on one leg for training to increase proprioception. It's a great little exercise to improve off-road running skill, or recover from lower leg injuries especially twisted ankles

A wobble board is useful but you can do it without equipment while brushing your teeth, queuing for a coffee etc

My real interest is improving my 'eyes closed' time
